AIDA Sadness
#0AIDA Sadness
Posted: 7/31/04 at 10:46pmI was just driving home and I heard the AIDA commercial on the radio, "...the last summer to see AIDA". Obviously, I knew the show was closing, but for some reason it hadn't really hit me until tonight. I had seen only a few shows growing up, and was never a regular theatre goer. When I saw AIDA for the first time, I fell in love with it. It made me want to see and experience other shows. I fell in love with Broadway. I know a lot of people don't like AIDA, feel it's inferior, but if the show caused me to want to experience all Broadway has to offer, then it quite possibly could have had that same reaction with many others. That is not a bad thing. I know several others here will also feel a deep loss come September 5.

I know what you mean. I as at Broadway in Bryant Park on Thursday and they kept saying "Closing Sept. 5th!" or "It ends its run the summer!" or "Go see AIDA not much time left!"
I was like "I KNOW!! STOP RUBBING IT IN" *breaks down into hysterics* Well not really, but i felt like it. I just kept thinking, stop reminding me. I will be very sad on September 5th.

Emcee has a lot of threads to catch up on...
I am sad, too, that I missed the chance to see Aida. But nothing stays...

*raises hand, while pouting*
You know, I literally cried the day I found out it was closing. TM Cara called to tell me, and she was able to stop my sobs only with the comment "Shut up. Adam's coming back." That made the whole thing much more bittersweet, I guess. It's no secret that Aida is my favorite musical, but going back again really made me remember how much I loved it, and just why I loved it so much. Sometimes I think it was a mistake to go back, because remembering how beautiful it is is just going to make saying goodbye even harder. I'm doing the same thing I did when Cabaret closed; I'm saving all of the newspaper ads from the Times count down how many weeks are left. I'm not sure why, but I want to have them. The first one I saw was "Last Summer to See Broadway's Timeless Love Story. Final 8 Weeks." I guess it hit me then... I just never did expect to see those words next to AIDA quite so soon. I saw a commercial on TV the other day, and was really upset. I'm going to miss it so much. I'm really dreading September 5th... can't you all picture me sitting in my dorm room, sulking, surrounded by my book, script, program and playbills, blasting the cast recording, dressed in all black?
I'm sorry, that was really (and quite unecessarily) long. It's just finally hitting me that I really don't have much time left.
*runs into corner, crying*
This just isn't fair.
Guys, can I have a hug?

Posted: 7/31/04 at 11:07pmYou're right, but that's making me tear up more, insomniak. When I first got to the Palace last week, I started to cry... partly because I was so happy to be back there, but when the show started, I realized just how close 'goodbye' actually was. It was surreal.
