Comparing Duncan Sheik to Cole Porter? Now THAT'S a stretch. And as far as pop popularity goes, isn't "Barely Breathing" the only mainstream hit he's ever had? I can't think of any others.
Reznor at least had "Closer" and "Starf*ckers, Inc." as well as "Hurt", the Johnny Cash cover being one of the most elegiac and powerful recordings of all time.

Christ, I love BroadwayWorld.
I'm not saying Duncan adn Cole are equals- that would require 50 years to pass to see if any song Duncan wrote or will write for the charts or the stage will still be around. Even if they are both completely out of style and forgotten by then, Cole wins, since he lasted longer.
I'm just saying, both were writers of pop songs. It was their genre. Cole just hpapened to write in an era when Broadway and pop genres were essentially the same- he didn't write in a whole new style to get on the stage.
I would be more excited if Mr. Sheik could write anything but a over intellectualized pop song.
While I cannot speak for anyone else's excitement levels, I would point out that your description of his music makes him sound even better for the project. :P
Open minds until it happens, anyone? Anyone?
I just want to know how they are going to incorporate the chainsaw scene if at all.

The habitrail sequence will present some interesting staging problems, too.
Lol...yeah...that might not make the cut.
