Posted: 8/25/03 at 12:11pmI just finished playing Rooster in Annie. It is a great show, but not up to par with the "epic" musicals of the period (Sweeney).

Sorry, I keep mispelling BEECHMAN. Just haven't written it for so long
BO John~ Right you are! Also, I love Laurie's " Listen to My Heart CD". I am fortunate to still know a few of her close friends. One of them has a copy of the "live" video recording of that album that he shared with me. It's overwhelming to see this woman "perform". A very beloved woman.

Yes PB ENT.2, that was her! Except she went by Claudia Cohen. I had no idea she did all that...oh wow! She was so adorable and very easily distracted from teaching
We asked her to sing all the time. I had her back in....oh hell, it had to be 1993-94.

I saw the original cast on Broadway twice. The show was rousing and enjoyable. I remember liking Danielle Brisboise (later to be Stephanie on All in the Family) as the littlest orphan. The most wonderful thing about the original Annie for me was Dorothy Loudon's hysterical Tony winning performance as Miss Hannigan. How cool that the actress playing Miss Hannigan, nominated against the actress playing Annie, prevails at the Tony Awards. Loudon was great.
The year of Annie, there was another musical i truly loved and admired I LOVE MY WIFE.

Annie was my first Broadway show (1/15/7
. I still have my ticket stub. I think it cost about $15 at the time!!
It was such a wonderful experience for me. I saw the show 5 times and even have a picture of me and Sarah Jessica Parker. I met her on a number of occasions and thought she was very friendly. She even showed me her dressing room.
With regards to the revival. It was awful. The powers that be ruined a totally wonderful show with that incarnation. A friend of mine just performed in a version at Pittsburgh CLO and they had close to 30 orphans. She said it was a great production and a lot of fun.

Posted: 8/25/03 at 4:07pmI saw the revival pre-broadway with Pacitti and again on Broadway with her replcaement. Pacitti was SO much better in the role. The production itself was lacking over all. I have heard it said in reviews and agree that the scenic design looked very bus and truck. I also remember seeing Sutton Foster in it. Small role, but still managed to remember her after.

Posted: 8/25/03 at 6:01pmNot to mention it was John friggin' Houston. You know, directed a few minor movies along the way? The African Queen. The Maltese Falcon. The Misfits. The Night of the Iguana. Nothing very important. Worth forgetting about because he botched the movie version of friggin Annie.

Thank you Becky for confirming that SPJ was an ophan. I had that strong recollection but hadn't bothered to check on it.

Posted: 8/25/03 at 10:41pmWhile I was a bit disappointed in the 80's film version of Annie because they had changed some things and left out NYC, I didn't think it was a bad movie overall. However, I really liked the version that appeared on TV several years ago, with Victor Garbor as Daddy Warbucks and Audra McDonald as Grace.

Posted: 8/26/03 at 6:45pmif i'm not mistaken, the comparatively recent TV version was directed by Mr. CHICAGO THE MOVIE Rob Marshall. One thing i liked about the movie version was the number added for Reinking about the going to the movies.

And don't forget Ann's dance number "We Got Annie" which was edited out (for time) whenever it aired on TV.
*sigh* I love the movie Annie ![]()
and yes, Rob Marshall *did* direct the most recent TV Annie
