Has the American Theater Wing officially pulled the plug on the Downstage Center podcast? There hasn't been a new one since January and there are no longer any upcoming guests listed under the "Coming Soon" section of the website. If they really are choosing to discontinue it, I'll be incredibly sad. It was such an amazing archival that really served as an Inside The Actor's Studio for theater professionals.
I heard from a friend that Howard Sherman expressed interest in continuing to host the program even after his tenure as Executive Director at the Wing ended and they weren't interested in allowing that to happen. Since he created the show, I guess it makes sense that there wasn't much of a desire toward keeping it alive once he was gone. Frank DiLella's attempts at hosting after that were incredibly awkward and lifeless, and the new format they tried after that with having two guests from the same show interviewing each other also didn't quite work.
Here's hoping Sherman continues a similar podcast independently. His contributions to the really amazing digital programming the Wing used to provide (including the Working In The Theatre video series, also now seemingly gone) are greatly, greatly missed.
