AVE Q - Movie, TV Series, or DVD?#0

Which do you think is more likely?

I know there has been some buzz that AVE Q has been approached to talk about a film deal and a TV series. Personally, I can't see a film happening.

I'd love to see the show as is get DVD treatment. I wouldn't think they would keep the 'musical' aspect in a TV series.

Now that AVE Q won the Tony and is and have been praised by the media, what do you think it's future will be?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The Avenue Q composers mentioned in an interview a few weeks ago that Trey Parker and Matt Stone of "South Park" fame saw the show, loved it and now the four of them are in the process of writing a new musical for Broadway. One of the Q guys said that since Parker and Stone write amazingly fast (they do an entire episode in about 5 days), the new musical will probably be ready within a season or two. He didn't give any details as far as plot is concerned or whether puppets will be in the mix, but it sounds very promising.

Well, certainly the principal puppeteers are TV veterans, and I can see the possibility of a weekly series, with celebrity guest stars, etc. - "The Muppet Show" for a new generation!

I recall when "Pump Boys & Dinettes" first came out, they did a TV special - it was basically the material from the show, but they had some country music star stop by to get coffee, fill up her gas tank, and sing a song with the gang. They were obviously tinkering with the idea of a "Pump Boys & Dinettes" weekly variety show - a la "Hee Haw".

I think Avenue Q was originally conceived as a TV series. The article linked below from last week's Houston Chronicle has more detailed information. Registration may be required once the article gets beyond a certain age.

I heard that Mrrs. Marx & Lopez are working on a "reality show" where the characters will break out into song with a full orchestra backing them. I think they mentioned it on Playbill.
