re: Actors Still In Broadway Shows Since They Opened?

"Is Yul Brynner still in The King and I?"

Was that supposed to be a joke?

You may have been joking, but I'm sure Carol Channing is still plugging away as Dolly in some western florida dinner theatre. Maybe we'll see her as dolly back on Broadway before she bites the dust. I wouldn't doubt it.

Do you seriously think that was necessary to post? I don't think there's anyone on here that doesn't know that he's dead. Well, maybe that creep that started all those posts about audition songs. He's never even heard of Yul Brynner.

"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer

Chill. I was responding to an earlier post.

though it's closed:

Marlene Danielle is the only member of the original cast of CATS to stay with the show for the entire run. As Bombalurina, she had the actor’s dream — steady employment for 18 years.

That was already posted.

Has anyone said anything about Cathy Rigby yet? She's been doing Peter Pan on and off for like 178 years.

i think the people who stick with shows for a while are genious. Jobs are far,few and between and as long as the money is good.. the show is a long run , why leave? I'd do anything to get one bway show..I'd be like that lady in cats.

The old school Broadway performers were what they called "gypsies" and proud of it. They loved the whole idea of going from show to show, learning new roles, finding new relationships and experiences. Now we're supposed to feel sorry for performers because they don't have steady work. It was never about that. That's the bottom line of an actor's career.

"the original timon and pumba were Max Casella and Ernie Sabella..."

Cool, about Ernie Sabella...he was also the Pumba in the Lion King movies. Not to mention Leon Carosi in those corny Saved By the Bell shows (which I watch!).

re: Actors Still In Broadway Shows Since They Opened?

according to ibdb.com and the cast recording Tom Alan Robbins was the original pumbaa and i believe still is. the only mention of ernie sabella in the stage version is a miscredited playbill picture.
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
