I was just wondering: Do Broadway actors get compt tickets for their show? Do they only get them once or often? Are there certain shows they get compt tickets for? (the opening, matinees, weekdays, etc)
Clarify: when you say specific shows you mean day of the week not other shows right? Can't answer for their own shows...
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
Everyone in the cast gets a few tickets for the opening. Im sure they can arrange to get tickets to a regular show if they know a friend or family member is coming.
I am pretty sure actors only get a certain number of comps for their own show.
I would imagine there are a lot of ways to get comped into other shows, but if it's just being friends with someone in the cast, the above would apply. I would also imagine it depends on how well the show is selling though.
It depends. As part of their contracts, stars typically get a pair of comps for every performance (as do each member of the creative team -- some get more than a pair). If they can't use them for any given show, they can turn them back in to be sold (or in the case of a long run, they may simply waive their comps after they've run out of family and friends to give them to -- they, of course can always request more house seats at some later date if they need them).
Non-stars typically can access house seats as they need them, but they may not be free and must be paid for either by them or their guests.
