Damn it. I just had a lot typed out and it got lost. Oh, well.
Tonight was a really perfect (for the most part) culmination of an incredible year, theatre-wise; lots of silly, random, wonderful things, great people and... Adam.
First little ironic thing: the waitress was saying what kinds of drinks they had.... Sodas, juices --> pineapple juice. I cracked up laughing. Etheb was like "she'll have pineapple juice." I just had to. I'm sure most of you know the root of my love for pineapples... just in the time frame and context, it was too perfect.
Anyway, the show. Adam was so much better tonight that he was last time, and perhaps the best I have ever, ever seen him... he seemed much more comfortable up there, and had a lot more energy. It always makes me so warm and fuzzy, seeing how happy he is up there. He really is simply a joy to watch. He's proving himself as a truly BRILLIANT musician, and there is one HELL of a rock star in there. Hearing him in person always reminds me what a truly beautiful, powerful voice he has. He sang the new CD in a different order this time, but did the song Model Prisoner instead of Mother's Child. He said he'd had a lot of requests for stuff from the old album, so yay. His encore was Maybe This Time from Cabaret (preceded by "y'all like showtunes?!"), which made my weekend; I mean, Kander and Ebb probably never intended for the song to be accompanied by a Fender, but it was a spine-chilling rendition. He also did Beautiful Song for the encore, and ended up returning again to do Glory because people kept screaming for it. There were a lot of VERY young fans there tonight, who were (unfortunately) clearly pissing him off, but he was good about it for the most part. They were inexplicably loud and obnoxious, and rocked out to Book of Endings lost in oblivion as to what it was about. Interestingly enough, after the song he addressed the controversy that's been surrounding it; he said it's "very tongue-in-cheek," then left it alone. Anyway, these "muppets" would NOT stop screaming "GLORY, GLORY!" After Maybe... he was like "I'll do Glory next time!
but he came back out again and said "you talked me into it! You want it, you got it!" It was still beautiful, but it's not as special when you've got thirteen-year-olds screaming for it. I'm glad I was sane when I was fourteen. VERY glad. They were rather embarrassing... and annoying. The other thing that¡¦s always interesting is to hear him speak about his music. He¡¦s not the most articulate, but it¡¦s really touching to hear this stuff from him, because it's so heartfelt.
Okay, so show ended, and we trotted off backstage. Adam took off RIGHT before we got to him; apparently the strategy of waiting until the crowd had passed didn't quite pan out as planned.
Adam appeared a few minutes later, and everyone hesitated as to who would approach him first. I think I went up to him second. A friend of mine had given me a RENT OBC playbill. "Hey, my friend is on a mission to have all of you guys sign this, so, could you help him out with that?" Adam laughs a little: "Well, good luck to him with that!" He said Jesse was supposed to be there, but couldn't make it. (Oh, yes. Sherie Rene Scott and Schele Williams were there...I had such an AIDA freak out moment, but couldn't muster the courage to go talk to them.) Anyway, me: "great show, by the way." Adam thanked me, then TM Cara, etheb and I went to take a picture with him. We all thanked him, and he put a hand on my shoulder and thanked us for coming. Yay. We were just about to leave, and etheb stopped walking. I guess she had seen Adam coming around the corner to head back to the bar, and was like "do you want your hug?¡¨ I was just about to say "oh, no... it's okay. Don't worry," but before I could even open my mouth, she was like "Adam, could she have a hug?" I turned around and found him literally right next to me, still just about to tell her not to worry about it... he grinned and said "sure!!" and before I knew it I was wrapped up in his arms. I was so surprised... all I could say was "aww, thank you!" Adam: "thanks sweetie!" YAY!
Anyway, he has a gig on December 29th; I won't be able to go, but it's okay. At some point, my priorities do have to become realistic, and I have a committment that I can't get out of. I'm sad, but I'm VERY happy to know that he'll be coming home.
Thanks Emcee. As always... spot on
29 December - ROLL ON!
QM
Without this girl, but roll on in any case.
I shall be there in spirit.
Muppet, you said spot on! I love that phrase.

Bumping... This was discussed at length elsewhere, but I hate to see this thread slip.
Any other bwwers there? Any thoughts to add?
Add thoughts, people! Then I won't look like I'm TOTALLY insane for writing so much.
I am so happy for you! AH! I'm telling you, you guys are in love, he just doesn't know it. :)
Wasn't there, but where is this concert on Dec. 29th? Sorry to hear that some of the audience got out of hand, the earlier concert seemed to have a great group there. Updated On: 11/28/04 at 01:25 PM
It's in the city - somewhere called The Knitting Factory.
LOL, MNIL. Check your PM's, by the way.
adam singing maybe this time...that had to be really different...
wish i could of gone again - sounds like an awesome night emcee!
At Tower a few weeks ago we heard him warming up on it.... I was still surprised he actually did it.. pleasantly so, of course.
thats awesome! I wish I could have been there but I couldnt
AT least I got to be there on the 13th! Im also really glad there werent screaming kids at the 13th, that would have annoyed me so maybe Im glad I didnt go last night Lol..
have any pics?
im DEFINITELY going to try to be there on the 29th..
oh yea question.. about the little teenyboppers.. dont u have to be AT LEAST 18 to get into joes pub?
No pictures yet.
I'm not sure - I know the website for Joe's Pub says 18 and up before 11:00 and 21 plus after that. I think it may have been lowered for Adam's gigs, since so many of his fans are so young. It wasn't publicized that way, but I know that some people asked, and they were told it was okay - word of that got out after the show on the 13th, so they were able to go to this one. Oh, well.

All in favor of making duct-taped mouths a requirement for people under fourteen say aye.
It's a shame.
aye.. lol
Well when I bought tickets for Adams show on the 13th, it was publicized as 18 and over. It should stay that way. No offense to people under 18.. I know I went to gigs when I was under 18 and I hated when they said 18 and older.. but if kids are going to be rowdy and obnoxious, it should stay over 18, at least at pubs and stuff like that.

*cough*
Not all minors are idiots. Thank you.
i didnt call anyone an idiot. I was saying that in this particular example, when it bothers the artist (as was explained in the review), it should just follow normal requirements of the pub and stay the age limit.

kudos on a wonderful write-up of your experience, Emcee. I think Rob and Craig ought to make you and your cohorts Etheb and TMC official correspondents!
Sounds like a fabulous event (except for the audience members who needed etiquette lessons) and you got a Hug. Ya gotta love Etheb--she's fearless when it comes to getting stuff to happen. :o) I want her on my team when Patrick Wilson comes to Broadway again and I'm doing the Stage Door bit. She'll be sure to get me a hug from him (before security comes!)

She's fearless on my behalf, and I love her. Hear that, you?
So Emcee...if they start rehearsal tomorrow in SF, and he's got a gig on the 29th, that means he HAS to come back. Right?
Yup. I heard Cybele say they were going to be going back and forth a lot. YAY!
