I assume that many of you have heard Mandy Patinkin's "Oscar and Steve" album in which he pairs songs by Sondheim and his mentor, Hammerstein. I decided the other day to take it a step further and pair songs by Sondheim with one of his protoges, Adam Guettel.
I've thought of a few good pairings, but chime in with ideas of your own:
Every Day a Little Death (Little Night Music)/Dividing Day (Piazza)
Loving You (Passion)/How Can I Lose You (Myths and Hymns)
Somewhere (West Side Story)/How Glory Goes (Floyd Collins) (thanks Audra!)
Not While I'm Around (Sweeney Todd)/Through the Mountain (Floyd Collins)
There Won't Be Trumpets (Anyone Can Whistle)/There's a Shout (Myths and Hymns)
Happiness (Passion)/Say It Somehow (Piazza)
Poems (Pacific Overtures)/Il Mondo Era Vuoto (Piazza)

Its a cool idea, and really good song choices.
Does it have to be recorded by Mandy, though?:)

SOme of your songs are great ideas. I take major issue with one or 2 of them but it is a good idea.
Those were the first ones I thought of while lying in bed the other night, but all are subject to change, of course. For example, I think Unworthy of Your Love (Assassins) works with How Can I Lose You? (Myths and Hymns) even better than Loving You (Passion), or How Glory Goes might match up well with Our Time.
This is just a compilation CD I'm burning, so Mandy Patinkin will be left out the project entirely!
