Ok...does this seem a little weird?
I will be there tonight to get the goods on how this whole thing worked and to see if anyone is severly alergic to cats. I can picture it now...Some lucky woman will walk in an faint in my arms...

I think it's a smart idea, frankly. Good marketing tool, gets families to come out and get a new family pet, as well as see the show. I work for a performing arts school in Virginia, and we are doing CATS next summer, and have a similar night planned with our local SPCA. If someone is allergic to cats, they should know that ahead of time before getting near the real thing.
Long live our furry feline friends!

I know for me personally if there were cats anywhere near the theatre, I wouldn't be able to see the show. Not that I'd go see CATS again anyway, but I'm severly allergic and my throat will close up. It's a fun time...
So I'm glad the little kitties could find potential homes but I'd rather them not be near me in an enclosed space.

I think its a fantastic idea. So many abandoned and homeless cats need good homes. And I don't think the allergy thing will be too bad. They will probably have a few kitties in cages set up in a remote area of the lobby (the cats won't be roaming around to give people the sneezes!) Similar to the way an adoption day works at the local pet store.
Both of my cats are from the local SPCA. They make you fill out extensive paperwork and they interview you pretty seriously before they will let you take an animal home. This is to make sure the "adopter" is ready for the commitment. What a nice way to help these kitties find good, loving homes!
And the cat lover in me has to make one suggestion for anyone considering adoption. Don't forget the adult cats that need homes too - kittens are wonderful (and a lot of work) but so are adult cats. And since so many people go right for the kittens, the adult cats don't always have as much of a "chance" to be adopted. One of mine was two when we adopted her, the other was five. They are great companions (and as adult cats, they were already potty trained!).

I am not saying that it is a bad idea but seriously...who is gonna take home a cat from the theater? Who, I ask!
I am all for the SPCA cat adoption(I got my cat from them). but i just dont think that the theater is the best place for it. :)

Posted: 12/6/05 at 1:24pmAs much as I want to see kittens and cats get good homes (we have four of our own!) I don't think having cats at the theatre is a great idea. Maybe it would be better to give "certificates" for adoption to the winner or winners. That way, there isn't an issue of trying to take a stressed animal home from the theatre.

"Who is gonna take a cat home from the theater?"
Um...I probably would.

Posted: 12/6/05 at 1:30pmI'd probably take a kitty home as well. I think it's a cute idea even if it's not very practical.

Can they not take pictures of the cats, have them adopt thing that way and after the show or the day after go pick them up? I am allergic to cats and also hate them

I think I like SSkankin's idea. Good point above also about stressing out the animals at the theatre. Have the pix and application area, but make the person actually go pick up the animal at the shelter.
But I still think it's a good cause... lets people know about the kitties that need homes, and how the SPCA can help.
