Ages for Urinetown?

Posted: 4/1/04 at 8:27pmWhat age is too young for kids to go to Urinetown? I was thinking of taking my 8 year nephew to go see the tour. He's more sophisticated than most kids his age about going to the theatre, since I have been taking him since he was old enough to get in.

Had some friends of friends who brought kids, and the kids really responded to the character of Little Sally.

Thanks. I was trying to remember if there was anything off-color in the show.
I think you'd be surprised at how much he can understand. I brought him to a regional production of Miss Saigon and thought it would be too boring for him but he was involved the entire time.

It is a great show.
I don't think it is appropriate for a child under 10 though.
It might be a bit scary.
The lead gets pushed off a building.

Posted: 4/2/04 at 12:18amI remember seeing A Chorus Line at age 5 in NYC.. I also remember loving it so much I had to be a part of musicals for the rest of my life. Of course, I also remember for some reason having a sense of "brotherhood" with the gay charactors.

Posted: 4/2/04 at 7:29amIf he's been to a regional production of Miss Saigon, Urinetown will be a piece of cake.

Posted: 4/2/04 at 10:58amNo problem. The show has zero profanity and zero overt sexual situations or innuendos. The story is probably too sophisticated for him to grasp, but he'll still get a kick out of the music and the visual humor. And he'll giggle a lot when they talk about pee.

Thanks for all your advice. Unfortunately, after all that discussion, I am going to take one of my good friends, Bethany. (not unfortunate that she is going, unfortunate that I got all these great comments and not using it) For some reason I thought she already saw it, but just called her and she had not and was very excited.
I will probably go again and will bring my nephew and niece.
