Joan, one of Al Carmines' old musicals has been restored/is coming back in concert form at The Green Room 42. Anybody around who saw the original Joan in the 70s? I love his music!
This makes me so happy, so much of his work seems to be at risk of getting lost or dissappearing. I hope it gets preserved somehow, ideally a recording but at least the book, score etc. for future performances.

It's being recorded on film, and the score has been completely transcribed for the first time!

The original production resulted, I believe, in a double LP, which I think I have in my basement, so the score was never entirely "lost." I remember seeing it at the downtown Circle in the Square and thinking that it wasn't in the same category as a few of Carmines's other shows, but it was pretty great. Can't wait to re-encounter it. PROMENADE at Encores! Off-Center a few years ago was incredible, and I wish it had been re-recorded. And there's tons more to revisit. He was an off-Broadway genius at just the right time.
