If Aladdin were to come to Broadway, who would you pick as the roles? Here are my choices...
Aladdin - Jason Tam
Jasmine - Lea Michele
Genie - Robin Williams reprising his role from the film, or Conan O'Brien! = )
Jafar - undecided
Sultan - undecided
Iago - voice of Gilbert Gottfried reprising his role from the film (it would hopefully be a puppet, as well as Abu)

^ Crap. Why didn't I think of that? lol.
I think this'd be interesting on Broadway. The sets and scenery could be very beautiful.

Hmm I keep looking online, but all they have is the Prince Ali outfit....I saw a little kid in Disneyland had one so where did he get it?

If the "Batman" musical ever happened, I was determined to audition for The Joker. That was my big dream role
If it does ever come to broadway, Dinsey has got ALOT of work to do on the show itself (I would suggest just scrapping what they have from the the production at Disney's California Adventure park, and starting over completely fresh...). At the beginning of its run at the Hyperion Theatre in the DCA, it was said that the forty-something minute show would be used as a "workshop", and would slowly be expanded for a broadway run... But to my knowlege the workshop phase never happened.
The production is a disaster:
- The book of the show is literal trash, and the music hasn't been improved much either.
- Jasmine has a pretty new song about birds and cages, but EVERY time i see it, it falls flat (in the emotional AND musical sense...).
- One of the most lovable characters in the movie, Abu, was taken out of the production completly (which brings about some severly dissapointing/laughable re-writes...)
- Sound is a COMPLETE disaster. I can't even figgure out where to begin on that issue....
- While the sets are stunning in EVERY WAY, it is too big and too fancy for its own good. Many magical effects require the use of body "doubles" (that term is used in the loosest sense). That, in conjunction with horrible sound design (and even worse lip syncing) PULLS the audience from whatever reality the show has established. For the sets on broadway, I would expect something a little more artisic than what they have already come up with...
- The audience interaction, and parading through the house is awful. It makes me uncomfortable every time.
- The only redeemable quality about the show, as I see it, is the character of Genie. His makeup is scary as hell, but the guys they pick to play the role usually do a great job of using improv to pep up the audience up. The genie's are constantly adding in new tidbits which keeps the role fresh and exciting (a blatent contrast to the very tired show)
Some may say I am being extra-critical... But Aladdin is my favorite disney movie, and it honestly deserves better.

I think if it's done it should be approached from the top. It just seems like an insult if it's slightly revised from an adventure park or whatever
Who did the lyrics for the new Jasmine song? Just curious
i have no idea...

FutureAladdinOnB'Way, why don't you audition for the production at Disney's California Adventure?

Well I'm planning on working at the theme park over the summer maybe next year, or the year after and playing Aladdin because it would look good on a resume that I played Aladdin in the theme park musical when auditioning for Aladdin on Broadway
This is ridiculous. This show isn't even coming to Broadway why "dream cast" it. This show has been done by many youth theaters and that's where it belongs.
I think Nathan Lane would be an awesome Sultan.

Terrence Mann would be incredible as Jafar!! I can't believe I never thought of that. Deborah Lew would also be a great Jasmine, you are so right! And Tim Jerome as Sultan. You guys have totally showed me up in this thread! = ) I am still sticking to Jason Tam as Aladdin and Conan or Robin as Genie. Any other awesome ideas?
becoz, if you don't like it, don't post here, OK?! you are wasting your time and our boardspace.

I also think Nathan would make a good Sultan, but that part would be to small for him. Also, I doubt if he would ever do a Disney show on Broadway.
