I am in the process of choosing a production for a local youth theatre company. We traditionally do a really big show in the summer and something a bit less in the winter. For the winter show this year we have been looking into the "junior" versions of productions. Aladdin Jr. stuck out to me as a show that would be great to do, but a friend told me that the Jr. version isn't worth it. Our production will have a lot of young children but also a few strong high school students and junior high members. What is Aladdin Jr. like? Would it go well with a few of the older people? Anyone seen or participated in the production?

Your comments, review, and feedback are GREATLY appreciated!

Usually all Jr. versions are bad except for Les Miz. Especially Aladdin & I have seen that.

I was in aladdin jr. and had a great time, but i also was like obsessed with the Aladdin story as a child. It was mostly highschool students when we did it and the music was super easy for us, that we actually added some more harmonies and stuff to it. but it was a very fun show, and almost sold out a couple of nights, which most shows running at the same times other years didn't. Hope that helps at all.

I am the Genie in Aladdin Jr right now. It's actually a rather funny and entertaining show. The thing that frusterates me is that the leads don't really get their own songs...all of the songs are made into group numbers with some solo lines for the leads.

You could always just change those songs and give your high school kids more singing parts to make it worth their while.

Overall, i think its a really cute show. I do not discourage choosing to do it.

I thought Aladdin Jr. had a poor script when I saw it in Children's Theatre Company in December in Minneapolis. Other wise it was a fun show.

Coming from a High School student as myself, any "Jr" numbers make me feel out of place..I know it's a youth theatre, but they're just a bit slow for any really good high school performer..just my two cents.

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

Why call it "Aladdin Jr."? They should just call it "Aladdin", unless Disney plans on making an adult show out of it. Which would not surprise me in the least.
