All About Us

A girl at my school recently got cast as Gladys in this new musical which will also star Eartha Kitt. I tried finding more info about it, but didn't find much, except that Karen Ziemba was involved with the reading. Anyways, don't know how accurate that is, but does anyone know anything about this musical, including who was cast? Also how big of a role is Gladys?

re: All About Us

I saw the production with Karen Ziemba and Eartha Kitt.

It's an odd, confusing mishmash of a book by Joe Stein, and definitely not Kander and Ebb's best score. There is one good song at the end, a ballad sung by Sabina, but that's pretty much it.

I assume Gladys is the daughter? Not a bad part.

So, wait, is this show similar to "Curtains" in the Kander & Ebb aspect?

Kander and Ebb wrote the score to both, yes.

They also wrote the scores to FLORA THE RED MENACE, THE RINK, CABARET, and CHICAGO.

I'm sorry. I didn't phrase my question clearly enough. Was this composed before the death of Mr. Ebb and just now being produced? Or, is it a show that they wrote a while ago that I've just never heard of.

re: All About Us

It is a musical version of Thornton Wilder's THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH, and it has been kicking around for years. Thornton Wilder also wrote THE MATCHMAKER, which became the musical HELLO, DOLLY!, not written by Kander and Ebb.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

theaterkid, your "or" doesn't make sense to me - seems you're saying the same thing before and after it.

re: All About Us

I think he means is the upcoming production a revival of something that was produced years ago.

Getting back to the show itself, if I remember correctly there was a workshop production in Virginia a few years back with Bebe Neuwirth as Sabina.

Bebe Neuwirth was to be in the premiere at Signature in DC, when the musical was called Skin of Our Teeth, only to be replaced with Sherie Rene Scott, who recording a song on her album. Brent Barrett recorded the (then) title song on his Kander and Ebb album as well. Dorothy Louden was also in the original production (I assume in the Kitt part, but I could be wrong).

Wait, I'm confused...the article said it would star Eartha Kitt. Unless it's wrong. Here's the article:

If you're talking to me, I was talking about the original production several years ago.

re: All About Us

Eartha Kitt was in the Ziemba reading a couple of summers ago - we're not saying she's not in this one as well.
