Seems like there are always some paparazzi at the right side barrier (as you face the stage door.) The front barriers (on either side of the door) get filled up fast. The barrier on the right side curves around by the building and runs parallel with with it as a walkway available for the exiting cast to walk along. The principles have cars at the curb.
It seems like the leads tend to sign at the sections right by the front door (which can be several people deep on both sides) but Patrick Wilson usually also comes down the side barricade to sign/take photos. He's a very nice guy.
The walkway is also where you can talk to the supporting cast a little. They tended to scoot by but were pleasant when someone spoke with them. I couldn't believe that the incredible Lizbeth MacKay who had subbed for Dianne Wiest just walked along that side barricade with no one noticing her. We made sure to tell her how fabulous she was. She gave a shy smile and thanked us--then dashed off. I guess the supporting cast and understudies figure the crowd doesn't care about their autographs and leaves the front barricades for the leads.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?
