Well I finally went to see ALL SHOOK UP today.
First off, the ushers were very rude while seating me. I have great respect for ushers and the job that they do, but after the wonderful usher at Piazza last weekend (cracking jokes, asking trivia questions, etc.) I was shocked by the two ushers I encountered at ASU. Wow....
Then there was the fact that in the second row was a family with 2 babies. One looked to be about 2 years old with a pacifier in her mouth and the other couldn't have been more than 1yr old. I have to say that I was surprised to see kids this young in the theatre, but they were quiet for the first act so I let it go. In the second act they started making noise and eventually their mother took them outside. I guess I don't understand why someone would bring kids this young to the theatre.
Now to the show. I was 5th row center (which was a very nice seat). The cast is talented. Cheyenne is very cute and I have loved Gamby since I saw her in Footloose and Fame. Sharon has a great voice as well. The story is rather thin. I don't know, it just never really pulled me into the emotion of the show. The songs were good and the cast had lots of energy, but it just seemed to be lacking something for me... I don't know... maybe I just had a bad vibe because of the way my theatre experience started. Oh, and those statues are really freaky!!! They scared the sh*t out of me!!!! hehehe
everyone around me seemed to be enjoying themselves and lots of people stood up at the curtain call (The dance/song sequence after the surtain call reminded me so much of Mamma Mia). The orchestra was very empty at the back. I couldn't see the mezz or the balcony so I don't know what that was like.
Over-all it was an ok experience, it just really didn't leave me feeling much of anything. I am glad that I went to see the show (because the cast does seem to be working hard), but I doubt if I will be making a return visit.
