I went to see All Shook Up in September. I went about 10 mins before the show and got amazing seats for just $50. It was probably the best $50 (£25-ish) I have spent in a long time. I am studying Musical Theatre at a drama school in the U.K so I go to the theatre as much as poss. Ok it wasn't the best show I have seen but it made me laugh. I enjoyed the songs and the cast was very good. If you don't like lighthearted musicals then I'd stick to your Miss Saigon but for a relaxed fun theatre trip it is good. Some scenes were a little bit strange they didn't really fit in this musical like when the statues are awoken. Mary Poppins also has statues that walk talk dance and sing and they work better in the Disney show. I don't think ASU deserves all the criticism it has got after all there are a lot of shows out there that are 10 times worse and are pulling in the crowds just because of the start or the hype it has had from the press.

Maybe it was still in previews when musical theatre fan saw it.
I also think my first time at ASU was last fall, around Sept/Oct.; I first saw it in previews, but I'd have to check my ticket to be sure of the date.

Posted: 8/8/05 at 4:02pmI thought the previews were in Chicago, as I saw it there in December. I didn't think it was in NY first, maybe I'm wrong though.

By previews, I meant that I saw it before its official premiere in NY, not necessarily the city where it previewed first. Either way, I'll have to look for my ticket for the date I first saw ASU.
For instance, although LENNON had previews in SF, it is still currently in previews in NY. Its official premiere in NY is next week. Therefore, it's possible to see previews in more than one city.

Posted: 8/8/05 at 4:17pmYes, but to have a preview run in NYC in Sept, then move it to Chicago for Nov-Dec-Jan, and then back to NYC for Feb-Mar doesn't seem to make sense. I know they were here in Nov for the Thanksgiving Day Parade, so who knows. Let us know what your ticket says!

Well, I found my first playbill and ticket from ASU. I was waaaay off with the date of performance (she says blushing). It was March 6. I think I was thrown off because I purchased my tickets a long time before the show even began previews.
HOWEVER, I also checked the playbill ads in the back, and it stated that the show was scheduled to open on March 24.
I'm guessing the post that started this referred to out of town previews. (I knew there was a reason for saving all of these tix and playbills.)
