Would you consider this a "family show"? What are the appropriate ages to watch?
I definetely consider it a family show. However, young children may not understand the jokes, or get the implications with the character of Mark. What are the ages of the children you are considering taking?
I just saw it on Monday, and while there are probably some jokes that will go over a youngster's head, as stated by almostxfamous, I also don't recall anything that would be deemed questionable content-wise. Have fun! The audience on Monday night was crazy! Totally into it...good times!
My cousin is 8. The dancing and singing would definitely be entertaining. My cousin is familiar with mass, Bible stories, Backstreet Boys, NSync, etc. The references to rehab, abstinence, and the adult jokes might fly overhead. I was just wondering if there is a minimum viewing age.
While I'm not 100% on this, I want to say that the minimum viewing age suggested by the producers is 7. I could be wrong on that, but for some reason I remember hearing/reading that somewhere.
I echo the other posters' sentiments though. Certain jokes will fly over the child's head, but overall s/he will absolutely love it.
The Playbill states that 5 is the minimum age for kids to attend Altar Boyz, but no one "cards" your kids...and people involved with the show don't care. My kids are 3 and 9, and I was told to "bring them on!" Both of my children listen to the CD all the time and know all the lyrics...without ever having seen the show! I would take them without hesitation. The music is infectious. There is nothing objectionable in the show...plus, they'll love the puppets!
