Did anyone see the first performance last night?
Curious to hear...
I saw it while it was touring in Detroit. I thought it was a really fun time.
I was there! It was great fun. I've been a fan of Alton Brown's since Good Eats, but I've never seen him live. He's nimble with audience volunteers, and although the intro video (with the good ol' yeast puppets!) and intermission are a little long, it's a well-paced show.
He's a fun, engaging nerd, and it's a good time out.

Thanks so much for the insight...
Lizzie, do you happen to remember what the runtime was?
The FAQ says 2 hours, but it was closer to about 2.5 hours.

I can't say I enjoyed Alton Brown's tv show, Good Eats, in which he came across as in-your-face and pedantic. Here I found him far more affable and engaging. He connects well with the audience, most of whom seemed to be big fans. His material is iffy, and not always appetizing (strange for a show about food.) But there are number of laughs throughout. A cocktail mixing sequence was particularly amusing, and the questions from the audience worked well. The second act dragged, especially a long popcorn sequence that failed to pop.
There are songs, as well. Suffice to say they do not rival Cole Porter or Rodgers and Hart. One of them, with new lyrics sung to the music of "Edelwiss," rhymes "mise en place" with dental floss, boss, etc. Still, they were more listenable and easier to take than anything in Hamilton, Fun Home, Falsettos, Once..... you know the deal.
An odd piece, with some fun among the longueurs.
