This is a terrific small exhibit that just opened at MCNY. While small it is filled with beautiful costume designs by the wondrous Alvin Colt.

To quote from the card:

"For more than 60 years, costume designer Alvin Colt has been clothing the casts of Broadway and off-Broadway productions with flash and theatricality. From his 1944 Broadway debut with ON THE TOWN to his ongoing work with the FORBIDDEN BROADWAY revues, Colt has garnered costume credits on some 90 shows--more than any other costume designer--including GUYS AND DOLLS (1950) and PIPE DREAM (1956), for which he won a Tony Award. This special installation features original costume sketches from the Museum's theater collection."

Some of the other musical productions for which Mr. Colt designed the costumes include:

TOP BANANA (Broadway & film)
THE GOLDEN APPLE
FANNY
LI'L ABNER (Broadway & film)
SAY, DARLING
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
DESTRY RIDES AGAIN
GREENWILLOW
CHRISTINE
WILDCAT
13 DAUGHTERS
HENRY, SWEET HENRY
GOLDEN RAINBOW
SUGAR

Mr. Colt is speaking tonight at the Museum at 6:30pm, as well.

I enjoyed my visit to this show. I think you will too.
