As much as I want a Wicked the musical movie to work out, realistically, I don't think it would. Like others are saying, the magic of the show in songs like Defying Gravity, No Good Deed, etc., works only because its live and on stage. The jokes only work becuase they're played to the audience. On screen it would seem like overacting. The only way I see a film that could work is if it came out as a children's film.. but even that would suck.

I think that any musical, under the right direction and with the appropriate writing (re-writing), will work. The best example I can throw out there is "Chicago". The *movie* is a movie of the musical... not the musical filmed as a movie, does that make sense. When I first heard they were making a movie of "Chicago" I didn't think they could pull it off. But I love it. And it's VERY different from the play.

I think with Wicked... they could even revisit the book and explain some things that are left out of the stage production.

I think WICKED should be made into a full-length mini-series, but as an adaptation of the original book, not the musical. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Wicked and love the score, but the book is amazing and would need a longer format in order to tell the full story. A 6-hour mini-series (like that Avalon one) would suit the content really well.

Well the film should do as well as the musical version which isn't saying much LOL. Now if they could get some better performers I think it could be good.
