NPR will be broadcasting a feature on "Zero Hour," the critically acclaimed new play which just opened in Los Angeles. Critics Choice in the LA Times and LA Weekly.
Jim looks so much like Zero, it's startling. This page below features photos of him as Zero Mostel. You literally won't believe your eyes. (There is also a link to some authorized video of the performance).

Scary and disturbing! LOL.
I guess they are. It's a terrific show and it shows a side of Zero that was unknown to the public. He was an intellectual, an artist and a very thoughtful, but angry man. I know it'll play in New York eventually. All of Zero's friends have been coming and the stories and emails are pouring forth. It's thrilling to watch it all happen.

LOL. At this point, with the play in its third week, Jim is leaving all options open. We have already been approached by some investors who have told us that if we take it to NY, they want in. The buzz on this is incredible.
In September, we are negotiating to bring it to Downstairs Cabaret Theatre in Rochester, NY for a few weeks just to let it run a bit more in a protected environment. The script is almost perfect, in my opinion, but now Jim just wants time to run it and run it so that he can continue to find new things to do actingwise, and to really get the words under his belt. I don't know if you're an actor, but if so, you probably know what I'm talking about.
We have another show called "The Big Voice: God or Merman?" that Jim and I both star in. It is scheduled to open in NYC at the Theatre at St. Luke's in October. What we were thinking was that possibly Jim could do Zero Hour during that run as a special event. Whatever happens, stay tuned to my blog. I'll be posting all updates and new videos there.

but please tell him I said Congratulations, actually to you both
for also doing "The Last Session", which I saw 3 times and loved also. Istill am in So. Cal. also, and I hope to get to see him in this current production as well. Once again, congratulations and "Hello!" to both of you!

At the link below, is some backstage video where I show Jim putting on his Zero make-up and how he creates the Zero Mostel combover.
Jon, I'm so glad you remembered The Last Session. That musical meant a great deal to a lot of people.
Greg, Jim says hello. He remembers you well. Be sure to come to Zero show and then stick around afterwards to say hi.
NathanStalker, "The Big Voice" is a very funny, but very real, autobiographical piece about the two of us, our "gay marriage," and how we both began in conservative religions, but found redemption in the temple of musical theatre. We won the Best Musical Ovation award out here in L.A. this past year, so we're excited about bringing it to NYC. I'll have more info on tickets when we get closer to the opening date. Go to http://www.thebigvoice.com for more information.

Thanks! I'll try to make it. Now, is this off-broadway or off-off-broadway?

NLS, The Big Voice will be off-Broadway in the Broadway district. It will be a very modest production. When we ran at the NYMF Festival a couple of years ago, we were amazed at the reception by the Broadway community. We had stars in the audience pouring in. Tommy Tune, Brian Stokes Mitchell and many others. The show is really a total love letter to musical theatre. I hope it gets a nice run.
As for Zero Hour, I also have high hopes for it. Knowing, Jim, he is a big "rewriter," so he's going to use every opportunity to run it out of town and sharpen it, hone it, and work it before coming into The City. Frankly, I think it's ready, but he's a total perfectionist, and one doesn't want to bring it into NYC unless it's in tip top shape. They'd probably start off-Broadway with it and then let it take its natural course.

Steve, my aunt and cousin from Toronto saw you in TLS in Cincinnati and again in Rochester. My aunt bought your cds and we all got one for Christmas that year! I still listen to it all the time! I love the Christmas one that Jim sings.
I'm so excited to see you posting here. I know my aunt will be in the city in October, do you have the definite dates yet? I'm sure she'd love to see the show if the dates work out. Not sure if you remember them but you posted my cousin Amanda's picture on your blog after some gathering that was held at a friend's house, if I'm remembering correctly. :) Anyway, nice to see you here on BWW and best of luck with your show in NYC.

Posted: 7/30/06 at 11:11amYes, I remember Amanda. She's adorable. I don't have the exact October dates yet for our opening in New York. As soon as they are firmed up and all the money set in place, there will be a formal announcement. But check out my blog because we might going up to Rochester to do BOTH Big Voice AND Zero Hour in rep for a few weeks in September. We love that little theatre and consider it a second home.
