With previews starting I was wondering if anyone had any advice with where the best seating/preference is when buying tickets?
Thanks!

I haven't seen this particular show, but I've been to the St. James three other times. The first time (Gypsy) I sat in the front mezzanine. This was best if you want a view of everything, set included. The next time I saw Gypsy I sat in the student rush seats (front row). While this was slightly annoying due to the stage being too high (I had to crane my head to see most of the action), it's such an intimate experience that it was my favorite by far. You do miss some of the more technical aspects of the show (certain blocking and set pieces), but getting to see the actors that close is just such a fantastic trade.
The most recent time I went to the St. James was for Finian's Rainbow. I sat in the Orchestra again (Student Rush again), only this time it was in seat H22. This was probably the best of the three, since it had a closer view than the mezzanine, but also allowed me to see everything that was happening (except for little bits blocked because I was so far to the side). That being said, because it lacked that up-close-and-personal touch the front row had, I preferred Gypsy 2 (Miss Hannigan's Rosevenge?!?).
I hope this helps.

Posted: 3/28/10 at 9:12amI would recommend either front mezz, or in the orchestra just slightly to the left of center - which will give you a good view of the entire set, all the windows, and the stage left sliding door, plus the awesome band an that amazing conductor (I have to look her name up again - she is fantastic!)

Posted: 3/28/10 at 11:54amI've sat second row orchestra, and it was a fine view as sgv said, but yesterday I sat mid balcony and appreciated the choreography and lighting from up there. So I'd say with mid orch/front mezz is probably ideal.

Also sat 2nd row Orch yesterday, I enjoyed it up close. I felt a lot of the facial and emotional expressions the characters give provide a lot to the show. I don't know if it is felt everywhere else but a majority of the time it seemed like I had my own personal sub-woofer under my tush (which felt GREAT!)
I have to admit though I felt distracted by all the "packages", I don't know if that was a good thing or not, I am still deciding.

Posted: 3/28/10 at 7:19pmI sat in the balcony yesterday. I was a little concerned about sitting there since I read many posts on this board about how bad the balcony is. However, I had a good view of everything and really enjoyed the show from up there.

Posted: 3/28/10 at 7:37pmI sat in front mezz on Friday night and thought that was fantastic for this particular show. The lights, choreography, etc. looked great from up there. I liked, but not loved the show, otherwise.
