American Idol's "Scooter Girl" Offered Maureen in RENT

I think that Rent is insanely desperate right now... and they should quie while they're still ahead. Bring back the OBC for one final show, and end it... once you get a Spice Girl, Drew Lachey and a "scooter girl" in your show... it's time to call it quits.

It was only a matter of time, really, wasn't it?
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I do think she could do it... didn't she say she was an actress? But still... this is entirely TOO desperate.

No - "desperate" is William Hung being given a record deal.

Yes, how DARE the producers hire aspiring actors in 'Rent.'

RENT has sold out. It's funny that a show that preaches soooo much about not selling out, has done just that.
Ugh.
Ugh.

Funny until you realize who the main producers are. AVENUE Q, anyone? Jeffrey "Vote your heart, i.e., put more money in my already overflowing pocket" Seller.

I love Scooter Girl! She's so NYU Tisch it hurts.
She was one of the funniest things about last season. Most of the Top 10 making it that far was funny too, but to me it was more sad/outraged than ha ha funny.
But yes, Rent is definitely in desperate mode. They should let it die with dignity.

I've said this a million times now, but they really need to schedual a closing date so I can see it one more time before it closes and then be done with it. Sadly, I think what they are trying to do is keep it open until the movie starts and hope that it boosts ticket sales. Whatever. If it bothers you, then don't see it. We are all sort of contradicting ourselves. We say it's horrible that they someone it cast and then get tickets so we can see for ourselves. That's basically the only thing that is keeping ticket sales up- rumors, talk of the movie, and MTV and VH1 throwing in some random cast members. The whole show has become one huge publicity stunt. I personally am willing to go along with it for the moment, or at least until the movie comes out. There are too many closed theatres on Broadway for me to wish for another one.

I saw that as well, bUT I want to know why her "contract" would not allow her to do it? Seems others have gone on to do other things.

Ah, 'selling out,' the pathetic cry of the wannabe and the tag-a-long.

When I heard this, I seriously screamed at the TV. I guess my dream to play Maureen will come true once I am a reject from some reality show. If "Scooter girl" had been Maureen, I wonder if it would have been with Frenchie Davis in RENT as well. Then it would have been "The American Idol rejects present RENT". But that's nothing against Frenchie, she's so talented....dunno about "Scooter girl". Ok that's the end of my rant.

Strange. If she were just that, think she'd get the offer? They're in it for the name.

does she get to bring her scooter? Might as well go WAY over the top! I did not think that she was that great.
<< Gavin Creel and Kate Baldwin making vocal love... I adore these two.

Wow. Really? I remember her and didn't think her voice was all that special. I'd never have imagined she had the range to sing "Over the Moon".

Maybe she would have gotten the part. When she was on 'American Idol' everyone was kvetching that she was too talented to get cut and that everyone hoped she'd go do stage where her style and talents might be more appreciated.
Do they want the name? Probably. But I have really hard time thinking she's a marketing bonanza. Maybe they did the same thing others did: saw this girl on AI and thought 'man, she's got a lot of talent, she just needs the right break.'

If it closed, I would miss the show, not the production.
Bring back the OBC for a bit (I know they're too old) and let them lay Rent to rest with some pride.

So? Adam is out of work, Idina is leaving wicked soon, Anthony is free once his LSOH contract expires, I can't see any of them turning the job down if they were approached and if they knew everyone else was doing it... It would be a while though... Daphne is having her baby soon and people would need time to finsh off what they were working on at the moment .
Hey I can dream, can't I?

You know this would make turn me into a happy babbling idiot for the rest of my life, but unfortunately, it's so unrealistic. They've all moved on.

I never quite understood this concept of "selling out". Any and everyone in showbusiness has two things on their agenda.
1.) To have their name up there, to be remembered, recognized for doing what they love.
2.)To make money, even if it means being poor for awhile to make it happen.
I don't quite think offering celebrities (not that scooter girl is a celebrity by any means...) is "selling out" for ticket sales. And who knows, Scooter girl may have auditioned and gotten the role without being in American Idol.
Any Rent fan knows its time on Broadway is near the end, As sad as it makes me, because I love having the oppertunity to go when I feel like it to see the show. And while I dont think the celeb choices were as fantastic as it could have been, They could have been rediculously worse.
I think once the show decides to close they should let the fans choose the cast. How fun. :)
