i love this show and was so excited for its second chance
...
oops. Don't i feel stupid!
Did you see it?
I didn't. Do a google search of Amour Goodspeed. I'm sure you'll find some reviews. I read some positive stuff on here, but I don't think very many BWW'rs saw it.
i actually was going to go and catch it, but things fell throw... shame...
1) Go to http://www.ctpost.com
2) Do an advanced search and search the term "Amour"
3) "'Amour' finds new life at Norma Terris" should show up
4) You need a user name/password to access the review

Before anyone reads this, I should say that it contains some spoilers directly related to the plot of Amour. Okay, just wanted to get that out there.
Anyway,
I saw it, and it was a wonderful production. It was actually not at the Goodspeed or the Papermill but at the Norma Terris Theatre in Chester (which, like the Goodspeed, is run by Goodspeed Musicals). I actually got tickets for the show about 45 minutes before it started, not knowing much about it except that it was about a guy who could walk through walls. It turned out that it was opening night for Amour, and I was seated in the last row (note- in this theatre, every seat is a good seat). Given my limited knowledge of the plot, I expected a dark sci-fi play, but instead got a light-hearted musical. The company was superb, each will solid voices and comic timing. The orchestra, though small, played well (obviously) and helped move the show along. The sets were gorgeous. The backdrop was a mini-view of Paris, with little lights in the lamps. In the center was a large wire figure of the Eiffel Tower. Meanwhile, there was a small elevated deck on stage right which overlooked the stage and offered Isabelle a place to sing to herself and to the audience. The office was simple as it should be, which five desks and a boss’s office. During the scene when Dusoleil first walks through the wall, we see only a few door frames to represent the doors, with no walls in between them. This allows Dusoleil to walk right through them. Obviously, the acting and accompanying music sold it. One of the front wings on stage left was solid, not a curtain, which allowed for a cool effect during one of final scenes. When Dusoleil loses his power, part of the solid wing flips, revealing a sculpture of Dusoleil “stuck” in the wall. This was ingenious. Anyway, the company was brilliant and the whole production was excellent. I left the theatre giddy and thrilled. It was awesome. So, here’s the cast and creative list(s):
