I was watching a re-run of $25,000 Pyramid from the '80s on the Game Show Network (as one does when one is bored) and background on one of the contestants was that he was a musician who just finished working on the 1988 complete SHOW BOAT recording, to be released the January after the show evidently aired. Dick Clark asked what it was called, to which he replied it was just called "Show Boat."

I thought it was a very interesting tidbit, though I'm not sure anyone else would have.

I was on PYRAMID when it was only $10,000. Almost everyone competing was an actor, writer or musician.

They interviewed everyone extensively to find some job one had had that was NOT show-biz related. Even though my friends and I were all working at the time, they asked us to claim our last, non-theatrical job to give the appearance of more diversity. I guess SHOW BOAT was "big time" enough that he got to claim it. LOL.

Wow, that's absolutely fascinating to think that most of the contestants, regardless of what they said they're professions were, were likely musicians and actors and such. It's crazy that they would ask for you to stretch the truth to appear more diverse!

"Stretch" is the right word. They didn't exactly demand that we lie. If you work as a secretary most of the time, but currently have a part in a summer stock production, are you a secretary or an actor? Seems like either answer is truthful.

Another advantage for getting on the show (at least way back then) was NOT being from NYC. My entire group of three got on (different episodes), in part because we were from Florida and were only visiting New York.
