And I'll back you, 100%.
The sondheim v webber thread had me SOOOO angry, at what both sides were saying.
But nothing has ever gotten me as angry as the "do not PM list" thread.
I nearly had an aneurysm.
Personally, I don't see how anyone who has been as universally successful as Lloyd Webber could be described as "lame". Should Woman in White recoup, that would make three decades of successful musicals for this man. How is that "lame"? While I believe JCS, Evita and Sunset Boulevard to be his most well-constructed musicals, my personal favorite will always be Aspects of Love. I just think it was his most mature score and while it will never be a commercial success, it is artistically my favorite Lloyd Webber piece. I think it would work better as a small chamber musical with minimal sets, cast, and musicians.
Shortly after the opening of Phantom on Broadway, he announced he would be writing an adaptation of A Star is Born. Does anyone know whatever happened to that project?
Mister Matt, have you heard Woman in White? If not, then I would really think you would like it since you liked Aspects of Love. It is not the same kind of musical, but it balances well between Aspects and say Phantom.
I have Woman in White and I really enjoy it. It is a musical that has grown on me and I like it more with each listen. I would really like to see it.
The funny thing about Phantom....
With the exception of Don Juan, I think all of Webber's best music is in the opera sequences. The Hannibal and Il Muto (?) melodies and orchestrations are quite beautiful. I often wonder how he would be at writing something for a ballet or opera.
Don't forget Starlight Express, Requiem, Sunset Blvd, Joseph..., etc. etc.

I hate all Lloyd Webber shows, so you can't go by me. His music makes me ill.
