"I read an interview or a comment once about how she had wanted to play Sally Bowles, but because she wasn't a TV/Film start they wouldn't let her do it on Broadway."
That's sad if it's true. How did Susan Egan get to play the role on Broadway then? Not bashing Susan (I love me some Susan Egan!!!!) but is she really more famous than Andrea?
It's also difficult when the roles are getting younger and the talent isn't. You can age beautifully as so many have, but that doesn't make it easier to be Julia in WEDDING SINGER or Elle Woods.
When I was planning the writing of my second musical, I deliberately created large roles for women over 35 in case it ever went anywhere, then it would give a chance for many talented names to do it.

me2, that's a good point, and also one of the reasons I LOVE the AMAZING average- age- over- 30 cast of Curtains.
