I hope that its' a hell of a lot better than her Sally in Cabaret. Barf.
One of my favorite shows and I wanted to leave.
Do you suspect, as I do, that Andrea McArdle and Audra McDonald are really the same person?
Have you ever seen them in the same room?
Sorry, there are just too many common consonants. It's troubling.
At 41 Andrea Mc Ardle is the right age for Rose. Considering Bernadette Peters age, I guess June was a 'change of life baby' !

not to mention the play spans about 20 years so rose is about mid 20's when she has the kids, and mid to late 40's at the end, right??
that sounds perfectly believeable to me

I didn't mean to indicate that she WAS too young..yes, in actuality she is the right age.
I just think she looks younger than her acutal age--and looks at who the more memorable Roses have been--Merman, Lansbury, Daly. They all just read older and like they had been through the mill...McArdle doesn't do that for me.
Of course, I have heard that's one of the reasons Peters is great--she broken the mold from that "type".
Know her. Worked with her. Love her. Respect her. Mark my words, she's on the verge of something HUGE and long overdue.
You can't beat the words of the Maestro!
Look it's kind of tough for me to be unbiased in regards to Andrea as she has been pretty much like a sister to me for nearly 25 years, her generosity, friendship and support has been a blessing and a gift.
She is the first person to include me in things both personal and creative, and her brother Michael and I are pretty much partners in crime and joined at the hip and her family calls me family and I do the same with them, so all I can say about GYPSY is get ready, as this is her dream role and she is putting everything into it and her performance!
This is the perfect time for her to attack Mama Rose as she is the right age, she's put in intense quality time with her AMAZING daughter Alexis in the past few years, often at the cost of being a working actor, but what a payoff, Alexis is a great kid, excellent student and of course a wonderful singer!
So I for one can't wait to see what she brings to this role, one she's wanted to play since she was a little gal singing about "Tomorrow"!

When I was 20, my mom was 39. She's not too old. Sounds like a wonderful show!!!
