Angela wasn't lip synching at the Tony's !

I have a recording of the Tony's from '79. Angela wasn't lip synching. The video recording that I have shows her mouth totally in synch with her sound. When they put this together for PBS, someone must have made a big tech. error

Intresting thought. I have yet to see it, myself. It dosen't air here in the hinterlands till Saturday.

She most definitely WAS lip-synching at the Tonys. It's blatantly obvious on the tape I have from its original airing and it was blatantly obvious to those in attendance. No one screwed up anything.

bk, you are correct.

Those of us who remember the 1979 Tonys, asked the same question then. Why was Angela dubbed on the Tony broadcast?

We wondered in 1979 why she wasn't singing live. I am simply trying to find someone who worked on the Tonys or Sweeney that year who knows why the decision was made to have Angela lipsynch on the Tonys.

My guess is that it was to save her voice.

However, I wonder if it has something to do with saving money. In the original, didn't she sing that song to Len Cariou? But I don't believe that's him sitting there. Perhaps it was cheaper to pay a chorus member to sit there and cheaper to pay her to lip synch.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
