Angry Housewives and Wayne Cilento

We have a poster of Angry Housewives, the musical comedy in our basement. It has been there for ten years and I do not know who gave it to us. I know nothing about the show.

I had thought about posting about it recently, and tonight I looked at the poster and saw that it was choreographed by Wayne Cilento. It was at the Minetta Lane Theater. I believe in the 80’s.

Anyone see it? Margo??

Hey I did that show about 15 years ago. 16? 17?? Oh man, do i feel old. I love that show, but it's kinda dated now. It's about punk rock...

I THINK it was real long-running hit in Seattle. I just seem to reacll that from when I did it back in Denver. That was in 1989.

Not dissed -- apparently you know a show that I (and apparently everyone else on the planet, other than Wayne Cilento and the rest of the people on that poster and their parents and friends) have never heard of. I guess that's a good thing.

I googled "angry housewives musical" and found the following synopsis: This crazy production is a musical comedy in which four stressed and depressed wives opt out of welfare, diaper changing and unemployment to Rock out in the Punk Revolution! Funny, feminist and furiously entertaining, these women rock in a musical loaded with comedy, satire and (if you watch closely) pathos.

I'm no longer surprised that Margo hasn't heard of it...

I ran downstairs and some names on the poster were Vicki Lewis, Lorna Patterson, Michael Lamback and Allen Lee Hughes.

Be afraid.

With the current popularity of "Desperate Housewives," I wouldn't be surprised if a revival of it pops up sooner than later.

Maybe Cilento will come back and recreate his original choreography.

Allen Lee Hughes is a thrice-Tony-nominated lighting designer.

Vicki Lewis is a first-rate comedianne and actress (she played Velma in Chicago on Broadway; best-known, probably for "Newsradio")

Lembeck and Patterson are married -- he's a major tv director of sitcoms (Friends, Mad About You, etc); she was a pretty blonde, as I recall, who starred in "Private Benjamin" the tv series ....25 years ago).

I got into the Broadway scene right around the '94 revival of Damn Yankees and I thought Vicki Lewis was an amazing Gloria Thorpe.
