Annie Golden 80's Diva?

Hey, maybe it's just me who hadn't heard this one yet, but I just caught a video on VH1 Classics, and it was Annie Golden singing a song entitled, "Hang Up The Phone" from the 16 Candles movie soundtrack. I had never heard this before! Even if it was a tad cheesy, I still love her voice. (She was fantastic in The Full Monty, and I love her duet from Assassins!)
Anyone else hear this old 80's tune or remember it from the movie?

A friend of mine is close friends with Annie and she's the one who told me it was cut. I hadn't even realized she had a song in the film til then!

Go directly to e-bay, do not pass go, do not collect $200 - and when the demo CD of Hairspray is offered - GET IT...preferrably the 5 or 9 song demo (there is also a shorter one). Annie Golden is spectacular - and this demo is ten times better than the cast CD. After listening to it over and over, the cast CD came as a real disappointment (although I LOVED the show).
And when she plays gigs with her band in clubs--- go see her. She rocks.
What was that crazy reading she did recently of a new musical spoof - the Wild Women of the Planet Wongo (or some such title)...it was terrific with great 60s music and a truly wacky performance by Annie.
They are going to play it regionally before bringing it in to NYC.

she sang 'air', not 'frank mills' (both were cut from the movie, but remain on the soundtrack). the film is full of great theatre performers, including nell carter, charaine woodard, laurie beechman, ellen foley and the voice of betty buckley.
a seriously underrated movie.

I grew up listening to my albums (those vinyl things) of The Shirts. I'm one of her biggest fans and actually saw her as Audrey off-Broadway in Little Shop of Horrors.
The demo CD of Hairspray is brilliant. She has such a 60's sounding voice (but a bit old to actually play the role). I've got some tracks from the CD in rotation on my online radio station.
Of course, there is also her currently running Coinstar commercial!!

I had no idea that Annie did demo Hairspray recordings. Why did she make those? Was she in the running for a role or something? (Sorry if this has been discussed before. I don't have time to read all of the threads.)
Yes, Piglet, she sang "Hang Up The Phone". It was the first time I had heard the song or saw the video and I got such a kick out of it! She looked really good in it. I know that I have seen 16 Candles a number of times, but I simply do not remember that song. Isn't that strange?
I am going to have to keep my eyes open for those Annie Golden Hairspray recordings, though. I am quite curious now.
