IMHO the issue isn't another revival of BYE BYE BIRDIE. It's this mad rush to re-make these shows in a haphazard fashion. I'd love to see the movie musical come back after the success of CHICAGO, but with stuff like a hip-hop version of BBB on the horizon, you can bet the movie musical is going to sink into oblivion again.

Someone said previously they didn't like BBB because it was "corny". Well, yeah, it is. That was the point. BBB is a cartoon, a total bit of fluff. No major issues are addressed, no one is murdered, no woman with a mole is running around stalking a guy, no lessons are taught, etc. It was entertainment geared toward the talents of Rivera and Van Dyke, lampooning the Elvis craze. A Broadway show that was meant to entertain the audiences of the day.

Somehow, I think that the original flavor of the show will be lost with a "hip-hop" slant. Puh-leez. But I could be wrong. It's happened before. My common sense has served me well in the past, though.

they definitely hafta change the lyrics, especially all the cheesy stuff, and the 60's names, (Margie, Penelope..etc.) and the songs lyrics to "Kids". It all has to be changed. Even the relaitonship between Rosie and Albert. There's not a woman today who would put up with Albert's Sh!t for 8 YEARS!! lol

I believe Miss Adelaide put up with it for 14 years in several successful revivals!

ya except they kept it in the 40's didn't they??? with bye bye birdie, they're going to place it in 2003! what woman nowadays would wait that long!
