Well if Gypsy has been playing to empty houses at the Shubert, it wasn't evident at Saturdays matinee performance. The house was filled (I'd say 97%) As many of you folks know, my husband Dave and I went to see Gypsy this past Saturday, our daughter was also there as part of her HS chorus, band and orchestra field trip, so the balcony was filled with about 350 kids.
Louise's role was played by an under study Julie Martell ( who was great!) Which brings us to Ms. Peters, I can see what people are saying about her breath control. Most of the time she was dead on,but the scene before "Some People" she had a small coughing episode. The song came off, but scattered through of the show there were times when you had trouble understanding what she was sining. But she recovered EVERY time and she nailed "Roses Turn" for which the audience gave her a standing ovation ( not me, I dont stand until curtin calls, and even then not all the time)
Over all a good show, a very good show even, but not great. Personally I have always like Act One better, but the strippers are just absolutely fab!! They had the the house laughing our butts off.
So folks the mominator gives this show a strong B-plus, if you haven't seen it yet go!! Especially since you can still get discounts for it!!

If I'm correct, two of my friends who also post here will be at the final show -- I'm sure one of them will have something to say about it
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
Glad you enjoyed it mominator. Glad you caught Peters on a good day.

I kinda wanted to see Gypsy since i ruv the show but i heard peters wasn't that good but i ruv peters
Sounds like you had a great time at the show. I enjoyed "Gypsy" when I saw it last year. I thought John Dossett did a particularly great job as Herbie - he has a terrific voice. Bernadette was "on" when I saw her, also. - And you're right, "You Gotta' Get a Gimmick" is a great song to get the audience howling. Thise strippers are such "hussies", right Dame?!
If you have the chance iruvyou, go see it. Ms Peters gives a great performance. The show was alot of fun and "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" was so funny!!
