Word just came from the Nederlander:

Tamyra Gray suffered an injury during tonight's performance of "RENT".

Antonique Smith will step into the role of Mimi tomorrow and Wednesday (July 10th and 11th.)

If Tamyra is well enough to return on Thursday, Antonique will remain on "standby" within the company the rest of the week. If not, Smith continue to play the role until Gray is back to full form and able to resume performances.

It's a chaotic time and everything is being figured out on a day to day basis, but I wish Tamyra a speedy recovery.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Antonique has confirmed the news herself by posting this item through her MySpace page:

"Antonique will be filling in as Mimi for Tamyra, who suffered an injury during the show, on Tuesday (July 10th) and Wednesday (July 11th). She will remain on standby for the rest of the week as well, depending upon whether or not Tamyra is well enough to return.

Since the status of Thursday and Friday (and the weekend) is up in the air, I'll keep everyone updated daily on whether or not Antonique will continue gracing the stage.

This is a very special situation - Antonique is not "back" in RENT, and this is only on a day-to-day basis for the week, so get down to the theater and see her one more time while you still can!"

Tamyra didn't injure herself during tonight's performance (7/9). Moeisha went on tonight. She must have hurt herself during a Sunday show.

Antonique Smith is just itching to return to Rent, really. How's that CD going, by the way?

Anyway, does anyone know what happened to Gray? Hope it wasn't some sort of "Out Tonight" accident.

They brought in Gray to boost ticket sales. Now, that she is injured and not able to do that for a couple of days. It makes sense to me that they would bring back the fan favorite as Mimi.

I would think the fan favorite is Vega?

I think Karmine Alers is more of a fan favorite than Antonique Smith, really.

I don't mean this as an insult to RENT fans but it is so easy to forget that this show is even running anymore.

Hope it wasn't some sort of "Out Tonight" accident.

Eek. I've always hoped that would never happen. That staging is dangerous.

I saw the Sunday Matinee and after the show at the stage door she had a ban around her leg. So I'm guessing she hurt herself during that show. I really liked her performance but I wish Antonique would stay around longer!!

Well, one sign of a good actor is being able to stick out the rest of a performance without showing signs of injury if one does occur.

Well, that explains it; I was at the theater during the matinee yesterday with my family to pick up tickets to see Adam and Anthony -- I overheard Another Day and I Should Tell You, and I was like ".... that doesn't sound like Tamyra Gray." I forgot about this, so I thought it was her, and I was... well, disappointed. Heh.

you overheard "Another Day" and "I Should Tell you"? Theres a good 20 minutes between those two songs... re: Antonique Smith To Step In For Injured Gray In 'RENT'

Antonique is in thru Saturday night, as someone mentioned, and they are treating Tamyra's injury on a day to day basis- no one sure when shell be back, it might be another week. I hear the reason they brought in Antonique, tho, is because uber-understudy Karmine Alers is also out on injury- its more likely that she will cover Mimi aftert his weekend if Tamyra isnt ready to come back.

Yeah, no kidding, lawyerman. I was with my younger brother, whose incredibly busy teenager social schedule made it very difficult for him to settle on a date. He's very important. He had to check his mental calendar about forty times, and then make several phone calls to be sure his presence wasn't needed anywhere else on the chosen date. He couldn't have done that before going to the box office, apparently. re: Antonique Smith To Step In For Injured Gray In 'RENT'

ETA -- Actually, wait, I'm an idiot. In my "I just woke up" state, I remembered wrong. It was the "excuse me, did I do something wrong..." part in LVB, not Another Day. But anyway, the story stil stands, because we were there through the end of LVB: B.
