re: Any Elisabeth fans on here?

Here are some press shots of the new tour!!! It starts in Berlin this week.

http://www.picturesberlin.de/musical_elisabeth/index.html

It's a mixture of Vienna sets (projected/adapted) with German costumes (adapted). The overall staging is indistinguishable, as these are mostly close ups, however I have a feeling that this is going to be fairly stellar.

Pia Douwes looks fantastic (and her wigs are incredible). She looks so beautiful, it's so wonderful to see her in this musical again, her greatest triumph of a role. I am so thrilled about this!

Wow, she's getting a little older looking, but very gracefully. Does she still play young sisi convinvingly or is it getting creepy?

re: Any Elisabeth fans on here?

Well, the show hasn't even started yet! However, there is press footage, mostly filmed from the audiencem, and there she appears young, so it's no biggie.

And considering she played the role convincingly less than 2 years ago, I'm sure she's still doing fine.

Is there anyway I can get a copy of this ELISABETH with this Pia? It sounds fascinating and beautiful - but all I can find is a 60-something dollar recording at COLONY.

Pia Douwes is featured on the following recordings:

Original Vienna Cast (she's not in full voice here; note that in German, Vienna is called 'Wien')
Original Netherlands Cast (one of her best performances...this one is in Dutch)
Original Essen Cast (back to German)

You could try soundofmusic.de, ebay.com, or maybe amazon.com....Footlight.com used to sell international CDs, but their repertoire seemed to shrink when they came back.

ETA: Here is the only professional clip of Pia Douwes singing "Ich gehor nur mir" (I Belong to Me) that shows her calliber as a singer. However, it is from the Dutch production, so the song is translated as "Mijn leven is van mij" (My Life is Mine).

re: Any Elisabeth fans on here?

for whatever reason the original of this that I posted a short time ago disappeared, even though the main list says I posted last, weird....so I'll repost

We saw this in Berlin on April 30.

It was extremely well-done. She convincingly plays young Sisi well.

I was especially impressed with Christa Wettstein playing the Kaiser's mother, my God she was wonderful....I wanted to throw ona bustle and jump up there and follow her.

All were good, although I found Marcus Pol, as the Kaiser slightly unconvincing....maybe it's because the role is nowhere near as strong as Sisi, Death, or ArchDuchess Sophie.....

BUT.....why is it that the beginning number, and a couple spots through the show, they do this very bizarre Michael Jackson Thriller dance kind of thing.
I mean it was odd. Steve even said to me during the first number, "is this from Thriller?"

It's a beautiful theater, we had the best seats (something I have never done) and was a great evening.

Question re: clapping.

We noticed at this production, and at Footloose in Stockholm, and also the Royal Ballet in Copenhagen that people start clapping normal, but suddenly revert to a fast clapping in synch with each other.

So rather than the applause we'd hear here it turned into a
clap-clap-clap-clap, etc never out of synch and everyone together.

Is this a version of a standing ovation, since in a couple of those theaters that would have been difficult due to location of many seats higher up?

also you can get at least the Essen production on Itunes in America as I have it.

re: Any Elisabeth fans on here?

I think it's so awesome that the two of them sang that song together.

Update on the tour...As of this month, it is in Zurich, Switzerland. It now stars Annemieke van Dam and Felix Martin as Elisabeth and Death, respectively (they took over in Berlin during the summer).

So far, I haven't seen anything about whether the tour will continue after its Zurich run...in Germany, the show has already been in Essen and Stuttgart (a different production). The only other city I can see it visiting is Hamburg.

Yes...the costume isn't all that fantastic. I prefer the Original Vienna look...very mysterious. Feliz Martin has a different hairstyle, however...

Pictures with Annemieke van Dam and Felix Martin can be seen at this link: http://www.annemiekevandam-fc.wg.am/elisabeth_b.html

I was in Berlin in August, when it was just about to close, but I didn't get to see it, unfortunately.
