I was just wondering if anybody was a fan on wonderful town. I saw it for the 3rd time this summer, and i was just wondering how Brooke Sheilds was doing as Ruth.

Yeah, there are a few fans on here. She is apparently getting some good reviews as Ruth, and they are recording a new CD with her as Ruth.

brooke was surprisingly good. i had seen it with linda over the summer. linda, of course, was better. brooke held her own, though. she carried a tune pretty well and danced like a pro.
Linda?
Do you mean Donna?
Or am I really dumb?
I must say linda was quite amazing. The musical is one of my favorites, although 42nd street is by far the best, mostly because of the dancing:)I can't wait to see it with Brooke then, nice to see a fresh face.
At first, I was a little unsure about the musical, and didn't really care for it. My judgement was based on the CD, as I didn't care for the music. As of now, I think my interest in it has grown, but would have preferred a national tour coming my way rather than go through the trouble to get to NYC to see it on Broadway - save that for the musicals I am really interested in. However the national tour was cancelled, and I probably won't be seeing it anytime soon.

no, i mean linda.....mugelston, donna's understudy
She really isn't too bad. I take serious issue with stunt-casting, but I really wanted to see the show, so I decided to brave the potential disaster. I really, really wanted to find things wrong with her performance, but she did a good job. Her voice isn't as strong as Donna's, but I had very little complaints.
Ah. See. I am just really dumb.
Anyway, I feel like the score is not Bernstein's best, but Comden and Green are at the top of their game.
It is a highly entertainging, very underrated show.
Ive looked counteless times for the lyrics to the conga!...but can't seem to find it anywhere, it's true there is jsut alot of lalalala-ing to it, although ruth sings quite a bit as well, and i really need the lyrics for my duo this year at dance...any ideas on how i could find it?
I don't know if this will help:

They dont seem to have it
Thank you anyways!
Hey. Does anyone know how long Brooke is staying? I apologize if this has been asked before. I was watching an old Broadwaybeat and now I'm actually curious to see the show. I had no desire to see it with Donna Murphy, but now I'm sort of interested in the show. It's very cool that Brooke has gotten some good reviews. Looks like she's got a solid work ethic and she seems to be helping the box office. Go Brooke. I'm not even a fan because I haven't seen her perform before, but she's piqued my interest for now.
I saw it, some cute girl at TKTS told me about it. It was great. Brooke was great, LOVED Jennifer Hope Wells or wahtever her name is...
samie89- you can find the lyrics in a book- The New York Musicals of Comden and Green. It's got the books of Wonderful Town, Bells Are Ringing, and On the Town.
I AM! (As you can probably tell by my picture). Brooke is really quite good, surpasses Donna acting-wise, but not vocally, although she can sing most of the show.
I saw Wonderful Town when Donna Murphy was in it. Murphy was brilliant in a well-cast (except Jennifer Westfeldt (sp) bleck! She cannot sing!) production. I think the staging is slightly overrated and tends to collapse during the book scenes. Marshall's staging has it's moments ( especially brilliant opening), but is uneven.
I am a big fan! I saw it four times, all with Donna Murphy who was absolutely brilliant. I had heard songs from the score before but never the whole show, and I fell in love with it after the first time I saw it- the music is great and the lyrics even better. I also enjoyed all the dancing in the show (you could tell Marshall is a choreographer even by the book scenes!) and overall, found it to be extremely funny and witty.
I have to say, though, that this show made me a HUGE Donna Murphy fan- to me, she WAS the show. I haven't seen it with Brooke and I don't think I'll have the chance to, but I really don't feel like I'm missing out. Donna was perfection.
It's Jennifer Hope Wills.
