oasisjeff, I would love to have the theatergoing budget to belong to all these theater companies! And your strategy of the Sunday matinee is definitely interesting
But with TDF, ushering, and memberships to papering organizations, a lot of us muddle along without joining...I don't fault theaters like MCC--or Signature, during their extensions or Roundabout with the Cabaret ticket prices--to try to make hay whenever possible! I just feel like a dope that this one got past me.
Saw this on Saturday night, from Row J at the Lortel, and the show does lost quite a bit at that distance, compared to the production at the Ensemble. Probably because the puppets are much smaller than in Avenue Q, so you lose some of their gestures and expressions. Still loved the show, the new actors were as good as the originals, and Stephen Boyer is amazing in the lead role, even better than he was in the prior production.
A theater with a wider stage that could get 25 or so folks in a row, with no more than 8 rows would be optimal for this play. Add a small balcony that is not too far away from the stage and it would be perfect.
I hope more people get to see this!

Thank God I caught the last performance of this on Sunday night, it was just brilliant, and blew me away. I was in the front row side section, and although the angle wasn't always that great, I think it was probably good to be that close...especially since the puppet's not huge.
But wow, what a show...Boyer rocked it, and I'll be looking out for that playwright, too
We saw this Saturday--Wow! It was fantastic and we were so impressed with Boyer--how he could be so angry as Tyrone and yet keeping his own face so removed from that emotion!
