Anyone Have This Problem? (Regarding Singing)

I tend to ONLY be able to sing in a stagy/Broadway-style. I guess that's okay but when it comes time to...say...sing "Happy Birthday" to someone, it can get extremely weird.

Sometimes I do, but only if my allergies are bad or I haven't warmed up properly. There are always ways to overcome the problem, and everyone has something that works for them. Try different warm up techniques, it's weird, but I've heard (and experienced) that after awhile the techniques you've used for a long time don't work as well. So spice it up a little, and you might notice a difference. Also, talk to some other vocal instructors, because you might not be getting proper training. That said, nobody can sing everything well. If your strong suit is musical theatre, then that's great. Some people can only sing jazz well, some opera. Everyone has their differences.

sometimes it takes awhile, when I started I could only sing opera. No belt or stage. Now I can belt, stage, jazz, etc. I have a pretty far range, but it took about 3 yrs to get. It's just a matter of extending your limits. Also, be aware that you can, for a short period of time, lose some of your range. For example, when I was working on my belt, I lost some of my higher notes. I got them back plus more, but it freaked me out the first couple of times I couldn't hit 'em. =]
