Just wondering if anyone else was at Rent's last show tonight in Charlotte, NC??? There was quite a big group in the first couple of rows in the orchestra. I assumed they were either family/friends of cast; or maybe Rent-heads or compulsive bowlers .... anyone know? They were a fun bunch. :)

Regarding the show .... it was good, as Rent always is ... however, it was weak. Jeff Scott Carey (I think that was his name, if it’s wrong, forgive me. My playbill is still in my car!) as "Roger" was probably the best in the show. Mark is my favorite character, but I wasn't that impressed with, Brian Gligor, the Mark I saw tonight. No one else stood out.
Also, I've heard complaints of the sound being "off" in the tour performances, and I have to agree. If you hadn't seen the show before, and been familiar with the words - you wouldn't have had a clue as to what was going on. The music was so very loud (no complaints there) but the vocals were SO VERY quiet (big problem). I took someone who was completely unfamiliar with RENT, and they were absolutely lost. I had to whisper a narration whenever I could. It didn't hold a candle to the performance I saw at the Nederlander, but then again, I guess tours never do. Just my two cents.

i loved brain as mark. the sound is messed up a lot on tour and it is a major problem. i saw the tour about 2 weeks ago and peoples lines kept getting cut off because they wouldnt turn the mics on in time. so you kept getting the last half of peoples line. it was horrible. i was in rush seats so i didnt have a problem with the music overpowering the voices but i have sat in regular seats while the benny tour was running and they had the same problem. i took someone who didnt know rent and they were lost as well. rent is a show where you REALLY need to boost the casts mics and have them use over pronunciation on every word, every night. Rebecca did not stand out? What about Jamie? Those two were the best.

I loved Brian as Mark. And Rebecca and Jamie were amazing. I was so glad to have a great cast when I saw the show for the first time back in May.

No, I have to say I wasn't impressed with Jamie or Rebecca. I suppose if I hadn't been listening to the obc cd for the past 8 years, or hadn't seen any other performances of Rent - I would have thought they played the roles fine. But I must say there was just something lacking from everyone's performance, with the exception of Jeff. It felt a bit like High School theater. However, Rent is a great show, and even the so-so cast couldn't ruin it for me. It was also very obvious it was the last show for this cast. Good luck to them.
