Don't forget, Kelli was Franca before she was Clara. In her Playbill interview, she stated that she really questioned giving up the role of Franca because she really liked how it allowed her to play AGAINST her type. She knew she was hitting an age where ingenue wasn't going to be an option for much longer. I think it's a BRILLIANT decision on her part to do something different from how people envision her -- especially RIGHT after all the acclaim she's gotten from LITP. I have a feeling that people will be saying "this girl can do it ALL" after Pajama Game opens. That's not a bad thing for people to be saying about you.

I think she'll be good. She's a talented actor and singer. I'm more concerned about Harry Connick Jr., I guess I just don't get him. He's certainly no John Raitt in the looks or vocal department. I don't think he's especially good looking and don't find him charming at all. His vocals have never done much for me--I don't think he's ever gone beyond imitating Sinatra.

Mr. Connick Jr. looks great in the ads. Baby blue really is his color.

i definitely kelli will be wonderful in this role. i was in several shows with her in college (how to succeed, sweet charity) that were not classical and she was always great. that is the beauty of her technique. it's so simple and she can do anything she wants with it. It doesn't hurt that she is also the sweetest and most genuine person broadway has seen in a long time.
