Agreed with many of your probs with Merrily (I've seen videos of the original script production and seen the revised script performed live a few times) though I think the show now basically works overall--but telling it bwackwards was NEVER a problem--the show has little purpose for telling its story--which is a basic cliched one really (how fame and power can lead to you losing sight of your original goals and friends, etc)--if you do it "start to end"

I don't know that I agree the show works now. It seems to me that you should see these people in the beginning as miserable, corrupt, unhappy etc... then work back to where they were innocent and idealistic, it should break your heart. This is hard to pull off, even good actors have trouble with stripping away rather than adding to during the course of an evening. I don't believe that the characters are developed enough to pull it off. You don't see enough of them as younger and I don't believe they ever quite make Franklin Sheperd unhappy enough at the beginning.

It's one of my favorite scores but I still don't think it's completely successful in what it sets out to do.

Yes, we do need a third vampire musical.--Little Sally, Gypsy of the Year 2005.
