how "partial" were the lotto loser seats? i saw the first preview from the front row, and I agree with the poster above who said the stage is high.

i'd be interested in seeing it again from the partial views, provided they are not like the partial views at say, RoA.

I sat first preview in the partials
I sat in B14 & my sister sat in B16
I couldn't see a corner of the stage and missed some stuff on the side. I was moving my neck around a lot to try to see what was going on. I also missed a lot of the cool lightening effects.
My sister kept complaining to me that she couldn't see B16 was the last seat in the row.
B12 was also one of the $37 seats and I don't think that one would have been as partial as B14/16
I wouldn't get them again but I'd be ok with other side seats
Maybe the 10's & 12th
The way I look at it is u can sit in the Balc. for $32 or Orc for $37 sometimes

Hope that helped

My partial seat was Row G, 19, IIRC. You miss a little bit of stage right, but there isn't as much action there as if you didn't have views of stage left with the stairs. So, if you were to get "lotto loser" seats I suggest getting Left Orchestra instead of Right. You'll miss less there... it's not too bad.

Re: Michael Esper's role...

Yes, he's on the couch for a majority of the show but it's part of his character. Everything is happening around him with Johnny and Tunny and he remains stagnant. He reacts to what he sees on his television. Like when Tunny sees the military commercial during "Favorite Son," Will and his friends sees the same exact thing and have a completely different reaction to Tunny's. So, while it might seem like a small role, he has the most stage time and he reacts to everything. It's not like he's just there twiddling his thumbs.

Re: "Whatshername" at the end...

First off, I'm talking about the song not the character. If the previous poster were talking about why the character is there at the end, I would agree and rather not see her in the song. If they were talking about why the show ended with "Whatshername," I can give my reasons on why I liked the show ending with it.

Johnny sings it as a "looking back" on what happened in the course of the show. To him, everything is a blur, at least the specifics, but he does remember the lessons that he's learned. Also, if you pay attention to the choreography, you'll notice that there are snippets of the different pieces from the show.

Hate to use it as an example, but take "Song of Purple Summer" from 'Spring Awakening.' Surely that song could have ended with "Those You've Known" but it seemed like they wanted to end on a happier, final note. It seems like the same thing with "Whatshername" in 'American Idiot.'

Yes. They've already recorded it and the cast/crew had a listening party the other night. They've been taking Pre-Orders at the merch table at the St. James. I've heard that the release date is April 8th but I don't think it's official.

According to John Gallagher's Blog:

Hello! I’ve done it. I’ve created a blog. I can’t imagine I’ll be frequenting this site that often and when I do I’ll always link the posts on my twitter page but feel free to check back in from time to time for updates. And now a word regarding the stage door at the St. James Theater…

If you have ever come to see a play I’ve been in or attended one of my concerts before then you may have some sense of how vital it is to me that I get a chance to meet the people who have taken an interest in my work or any project that I’m lucky enough to be a part of. If you came to see American Idiot on Broadway this past week then you might have noticed that I’m not really holding up my end of the bargain this time around. I just wanted to take this opportunity to formally apologize for that and explain myself. Quite frankly American Idiot is the most challenging thing I’ve attempted as a performer to date and as much as I want to make sure I sign every playbill at the stage door it is far more important to me that I make sure I am giving the best and most reinforced performance I possibly can each show from the curtain’s rise to the curtain’s fall. Sadly, that often means going straight home after evening performances and staying in the theater to rest after matinees. This all said, whenever I have the energy and the opportunity to come out and meet all of you wonderful people, you can count on me to do so. It is my sincerest hope that everyone who has offered me their support and helped make it that much sweeter to do what I do will also offer me their understanding in this matter and know that my appreciation is forever.

With unyielding gratitude

John

Saw it last night. Thoughts:

- Yes, enjoyable, lots of energy.
- I thought they did a decent amount with the story given the lack of specific relevance of the songs to the story and a limited book. That said, character development leaves a lot to be desired.
- Each individual story line is extremely cliche, as is the theme as a whole. However, I did like the parallels, and the show does tackle a standard storyline (coming of age, finding purpose) with a decent balance of emo pessimism and realism.
- Tony Vincent is so skinny! I did not remember him being so emaciated in JCS, though he was skinny for We Will Rock You. Eat something, Tony! He's also pushing 40, which really contrasts with every other member of the cast. (Intentionally, I'm sure.)
- I have never seen so much underwear in one show. This includes, uh, outlines.
- I felt myself being drawn to the brunette chorus member the whole show, then found out that she is Tony's wife. My former idol has done well for himself.

While Aspen Vincent is in the show, she's a swing so that wasn't her that you saw last night but Leslie McDonel as ensemble. That is unless Leslie called out but I haven't heard that she did...

Isn't Aspen a swing? Who was she in the place of?

Lizzie: It actually came from a Blog that he started. Just wanted to inform anyone that was interested as to why he is not coming out after performances.

I stand corrected, Sorano. I was lazy and just looked at the headshots and thought it was Aspen. Didn't get a chance to look through the actual Playbill (no intermission!).

Has anyone stage doored lately? Is it starting to cool down a little bit. I am hoping that Green Day won't be there on Friday.

I don't think they will. My understanding is that they were just going to be there for the first week of previews through last weekend.

I saw this on Saturday, I really liked what I saw, even the show had no book, it had a powerful storyline.

What I didn't get, why have a shopping trolley hanging above the stage, with a television in it for most of the show?
