Anyone know anything about Spitfire Grill (the musical)?

Hey!
I just heard from a professor that this will likely be one of the musicals we do next year, so I was just wondering what people know about it?
I'm a blonde soprano type...so...any roles for me? lol...that's pretty vague I suppose..but I'm more wondering if anyone knows where I can hear the music, and what the show is about?

All I know about it is that a theatre I preform at did this and I was unable to see it or try out for it. But all I know is that everyone who saw it loved it. I'll try finding information for you!

I don't know about parts - there are I think three female roles - the older owner of the cafe, the just released convict who comes to work there, and a waitress at the cafe. I THINK that was it. You might be right for the waitress...

It's a decent show, some really good songs...I enjoyed the local production I saw a couple of years ago, and I pop in the cast album every now and then...

There is one more woman - a local housewife. All three of the younger women's roles require thatr typical country music soprano/high belt mix.

it is a really good show and the cast recording is great too. i think you could either be the convict or the other waitress.

4 female roles!? about time my school picked a woman heavy show (that's about ALL we have!) but damn...country!? we did a show my freshman year (smoke on the mountain) taht had a similar style...I was in it, and not happy about that style...

but oh well! I'll be sure to check out the cd!

I think it has a couple good songs. I saw two productions of the show and did not like the show at all though it had great actors and singers.

One of the best shows I've seen in years - really wonderful script and score. I had always loved the movie and was anxious to see how the musical would work, and, apart from the changed ending, the musical remains really true to the feel of the film. I also had a friend (Garrett Long) in the lead and she proved to be really fantastic. We'd done a show together about ten years ago, and I'd only had a chance to see her in an ensemble role, so I was really thrilled to see her soar in the lead of this show. Its a show I think everyone should see.

"I don't really get the ending,all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang,and later she kissed him on the toilet,after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung,and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen,and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady?Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

It is a wonderful wonderful musical! Actors Co-Op did it a couple of years ago in Hollywood and I saw it twice. It has heart, humor, a bunch of excellent songs, and a great ending (not the one the film has). The OCR isn't available in many locations, but it's worth a listen if you're going to be in it.

this does make me sad though, since this looks similar style-wise to Smoke on the Mountain, and I really can't wait to be in a traditional musical (glamour and sequins!! lol)....

that better be how the OTHER musical is!!

Stephanie - this show (spitfire) is absolutely NOTHING like Smoke on the Mountain. Please do yourself a favor and at least get ahold of a copy of the movie and watch it - it is so beautifully written. The score is really beautiful also, (to the play)...you will not be dissappointed if you get cast in a production of it.(at least, not dissappointed with the show itself - there may be other problems - but the writing is great)

Bumping this thread because my school is doing it this spring. I had planned on skipping this one to audition for "And the World Goes Round" at a local theatre, but won't be able to due to scheduling conflicts.

My question is this--are any of the female parts a good fit for a character actress with a strong mezzo belt? I know the director of the show quite well, but not the musical director. I don't know if they're adding a chorus to the show or not. Plus I know of quite a few TALENTED sopranos trying out, so I doubt I'll get those sorts of roles.

Thanks guys! If it doesn't seem like there's a good part, I'll just sit out on theatre this semester. I'm pissed about "And the World Goes Round," though. My voice is perfect for all 3 female roles. *sigh*

All the female roles are belty, one is a high soprano belt (percy), but mostly mezzos.

A legit soprano could play Shelby, and a strong Alto is Hannah. Effie is a mezzo as well.

We did the show in september...I wasn't in it

but I know about it now...so any questions I can now answer!

Thanks much--hopefully I'll be getting a copy of the cast recording this week. I'm just really ticked that I won't have the chance to sing "Ring Them Bells" or "Kiss of the Spider Woman" or "All that Jazz" or "Cabaret" or...

*sigh*
