I'm listening to "Luck of the Draw" from "Violet" on bwwradio. I'm loving this. Anyone know anything about this musical, and who I'm listening to?

Lauren Ward is Violet, Michael McElroy is Flick. That album is amazing. I just had it in my car for a couple days. The album also features McElroy's Bway gospel choir. i saw the show in Philly and it is stunning. Violet (13) was accidentally scarred by an ax blade across her face. Now a woman, she journeys to a televangelist to work a miracle and heal her. Along the way she meets 2 officers (Monty - white, pretty boy & Flick - an African American). They both fall in love with Violet to a degree and are changed by their association. I don't to give away spoilers, but its very uplifting. The music is by Jeanine Tesori (Millie, Caroline) and is awesome. if you can track down this CD - you must buy it.
Justice - what would you like to know?
It opened in 97 at Playwrights. The cast included Lauren Ward as Violet, Michael McElroy as Flick, and Michael Park as Monty. Also Robert Westenberg, Amanda Posner, Stephen Lee Anderson and Cass Morgan were in it. It's a beautiful show. I heard mixed things about the original production, but I have my own version staged in my head. It's done regionally at times, but not so often. Someone who posts regularly on here is doing it in high school, I believe. The score and the premise of the show are wonderful.
I loved VIOLET when I saw it at Playwrights Horizon. The cast was superb, particularly Lauren Ward in the title role, who gave one of the most memorable performances I can remember ever seeing in a musical.
The musical is based on a short story called THE UGLIEST PILGRAM -- definitely worth reading

Justice,
If you feel like taking a trip to Boston this weekend, the Footlight Club in Jamaica Plain is doing VIOLET. I know the music director - he does great work. He speaks very highly of the cast in this production, and he loves the score.

Justice - I heart this show. A friend of mine from college was asking if I knew anything about it cause they were looking at it for this year - so I obtained a copy and looked into it - it instantly became my fave and has remained so for a lil over a year.
Just an absolutely beautiful show.
I bought my copy via ebay I think (it was really hard to track down as it's out of print), I also saw it shortly after at colony although I went to their website and it didn't come up - but the copy I bought was very obviously just a burned copy. If you'd like, I'd be more than happy to burn you a copy and send it your way, no prob (you dno't need to buy it off me or anything), just PM me and lemme know
Meanwhile, yeah - what everyone else has told you is basically all the info that's out there. Some good synopsi from them too, nice job guys! I remember when I was first looking the only description I could find was really weird and didnt' make any sense...
Lauren Ward is amazing as Violet. Michael Park is sooo great at being that cocky pretty boy and Michael McElroy...I heart him - ghetto booty and all! Lol.
Now I need to go listen to it! :)
I'm planning on buying this as soon as possible. If people can't seem to find it, Amazon apparently has a bunch of used and new copies of it in stock.

Michael McElroy is a ridiculously talented performer who, in a perfect world, would be a huge star of enormous wealth. His original rendition of "Let It Sing" is reason enough to buy the CD, divorce your wife, sell your home, and send him all your money. Not to imply he'd be needing it, but he certainly earns it with the amazing effort he puts into every performance. But depriving you of your home wouldn't make Michael happy, so just buy the CD and leave it at that.
Lauren Ward is a real revelation in the title role, and the cast is top-notch all around- honorable mention being owed to a likable Michael Park for his turn as Monty and to Brian d'Arcy James just for being there.
