hehe well its gotten (i would say) mixed to positive reviews w/critics and w/people on the boards, though it doesnt seem to be having any trouble in the box office at the moment,so i'd say its a hit as of now, let me try to pull up some reviews for ya
wow, i tried to see it two days after it opened and she was out...diva, diva, diva...i think people should start harping on her the way they did sara ramirez...maybe that's just me...
i did, however, see manypeople that would otherwise NEVER come to the theater, so i guess that's a good thing...
Saw it for the first time on 12/15, with someone who had already seen it and loved it himself- and I loved it!! LaChanze was incredible, I came home and downloaded the three free songs on the colorpurple.com site, it's on the top of shows that I am talking up to out of town friends, and I have plans to rush it again over the next couple of weeks, loved it.
i saw it front row center. i was so close i saw lachanzes fillings in her molars!!! I saw it the day before thanksgiving and durring the reprise of "the color purple" members of the cast leaned down and gave me and my friends hugs and kisses and did crazy runs for us just for fun. I must say, im still in shock......FEIRCE SHOW GUYS!
Stop worrying if your vision is new.
Let others make that decision-
They usually do.
You keep moving on.
Anything you do,
Let it come from you.
Then it will be new.
Give us more to see...

I went into the show not thinking I was going to like it. To my surprise I really enjoyed it. There were some weak spots, but as iliketheater says, "no show's perfect". Very Very touching show.
Should be on the MUST see list.

I really wanted to like the show, but alas, I did not. I thought that book was completely off the mark and focused way too much on the sexual habits of the characters (which puzzled me) and just barely skimmed over the darker, heavier issues in the story (rape, loss of identity, female oppression, racism). The score had no theatricality IMO and was very forgettable. The cast on the other hand was tremendously talented and they did the best they could with such abysmal material. This is what I took away from the show. I hope that you are able to enjoy it despite its deeply flawed nature.
