Many years ago, desperate to get off with a neighbour, who said he was "straight" (but I knew differently!) I invited him round for drinks and brought up the subject of "poppers". He said he'd tried them, so quick as a flash I had a bottle under his nose with the question "D'ya think these are off?

Within months he was working for Britannia Airways as Cabin Crew.

I always knew the only aisle he would walk down was backwards on a Beoing 737!

lol. I've used the poppers test myself on more than one occasion in the past. That and the 'do you like sondheim?' test, which is a little more subtle than the 'do you like Striesand/ Madonna / Britney' test, and gives more accurate results.

p.s. are you really in Hulme?, so am i.

No, not in Hulme now, but he name kinda stuck on another website (cough). I now reside in the southern extremity of Manchester called Baguley.(pronounced Beigely as in St Retford!)

I've never managed to peek inside there but have always wanted to, the pictures of the place in it's heyday are stunning. Me thinks i need to do some urban exploring.

Anyway, lets return this thread to Legally Sam, who started off wanting a bit of inocent fun on a Friday night.

You lot have sullied it with your talk of "poppers" and "gaydar". Poor Sam will be wondering what you are talking about................

lol. if you are being corrupted Sam i'm sure it's very willfully.

Hulmeman - there is a 'Church' of a loud and boisterous nature using that building yeah. As far as i'm aware they are only using a very small part of it, the auditorium is pretty much out of bounds due to flooding and unstable floors etc. Very sad.

Such a shame i didn't win the £100 million plus jackpot on euromillions the other week. Anyone up for a bit of Friday Night fun?

It's always disheartening to see beautiful buildings being run down, although like Hulme suggests, urban exploration is a fantastic way to find new life and beauty amongst the decay - I've seen some gorgeous photos of disused factories, hospitals, schools, etc. where you can see the calm and the entropy in action.

As far as churches using theatres go, I'm reminded every day that there's no longer enough of an audience in Golders Green to support a theatre when I go past the Hippodrome, now a large church.

Its amazing to remember that in the 40s 50s and 60s when the big musicals like 'Guys and Dolls', 'Can Can', 'Kiss Me Kate' etc, finished their West End runs they immediatlely transfered to the Golder's Green Hippodrome and continued the runs there!
Then TV appeared!

Honestly! I go away for a few days and Sam starts dragging the board down again. Next he'll be posting that PM he sent me about the relative flexibility and ease of retraction of various different types of, errr, no, I shouldn't. I can't. But the PM was very helpful - thank you Sam.

Seriously, I thought A Single Man was a very perceptive film about how someone totally unexpected can puncture a huge emotional funk of grief and bring hope, without ever realising just what they've achieved.
