Anything Goes

My high school is most likely doing this show this year, and although I've heard a lot about the music, I'm still a little bit unsure of the parts. Besides Reno, how big are the other parts, particularly for the guys? I know there's a lot of dancing, but do the guys have much character wise? Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated! :P

Moonie (Moonface Martin) is the Asian felon. It's a good part for a strong comedian although there's not too much to sing.

Billy is the romantic lead. It's a tenor role with fabulous duets like You're the Top & It's Delovely.

Lord Evelyn Oakleigh is the dopey guy who kind of follows Mrs. Harcourt around. Not really that big of a supporting role.

I don't quite remember any of the males dancing, so I don't know if you'll have to worry about that. If you do plan on getting a cast recording, I suggest the Lincoln Center recording with la Lupone. If you want a synopsis of the show, you could always read mtishows.org

re: Anything Goes

I'm working on the show right now for my high school! I'm "sailor Jack" in the sailor quartet. It's going really well so far. There are only two real big dance numbers: Anything Goes (the only tap number) and Blow, Gabriel, Blow. The rest of the numbers are with less people and less choreography.

For the guys, there are:
Billy
Moonface
Evelyn
Eli Whitney
The Captain
The Purser
Sailors
Sailor Quartet

EDIT: And the two Chinese "converts" that Moonface has hanging around him. Moonface is disguised as a priest.

For girls:
Reno
Reno's Angels
Hope
Erma
Mrs. Harcourt (Hope's mother)
Passengers

I was a techie for a community theater production of this show last May. Have fun with it! Sure, it's a cheesy plot, but we all had a blast!

Wait, since when was Moonface Asian? His two henchmen are Asian.

Billy is a great leading man role and Moonface is a great comic turn for a character actor.

re: Anything Goes

Evelyn has the nice showtopping "Gypsy in Me", that part would be hilarious to do! I saw the show last year at Stratford and the character of Billy was a little blah, except I love "You're the Top!" My choice would go for Lord Evelyn.

It also depends on which version you are doing as well.

Moonface isn't Asian. I played him in high school, and I'm certainly not Asian. Bill McCutcheon, from the Broadway revival, wasn't Asian either.

re: Anything Goes

I prefer the off-Broadway version. It has better songs.
