I'm Mrs. Harcourt, but I have to belt out a solo in the song "Anything Goes." Strange, right? My belting is loud, but the part that I have to sing ("Good authors too who once used better words now only use four letter words writing prose-anything goes!") falls right in my break and I have to go into head voice at "letter words...". So can you give me advice on how to raise my belt a few notes? Or can you help me learn how to mix better? Because I feel it sounds so strange when I just switch voices in the middle. Thank you! (This also happens in Blow, Gabriel, Blow but I don't have a solo in that)

Your director must be impressed with your voice to take part of Reno's big solo away and give it to you! Congratulations!

Try placing "letter words" in your mask (right behind your nose and cheeks) as opposed to your throat and chest. Having the "L" of "letter" helps as "L" is a good "jumping off" vowel. Place the "L" (that means hit the note while making the "L" sound) and then just let "letter words" pop out. That's what I'd do.

If that doesn't work, I have three words for you: act act act. Like be all shocked about four letter words that Mrs. H would be offended by. By that point we've heard the melody so just act it - you'll stand out MORE rather than worrying about spending a nano-second in your headvoice.

Break a leg, Evangeline!
